Obama to fast track southern half of Keystone XL Pipeline
CNN news blog ^ | 3/20/12 | Brianna Keilar

President Obama plans to announce in Cushing, Oklahoma Thursday that his administration will expedite the permit for the southern half of the Keystone XL pipeline, a source familiar with the president's announcement tells CNN.

In January, the Obama administration denied a permit for the 1,700 mile long Keystone XL oil pipeline, which would stretch from Canada's tar sands development to the U.S. Gulf Coast. That decision was met by persistent Republican criticism that the president has not been doing everything possible to create jobs and combat high gas prices.

Zero is supposed to be in Cushing, OK tomorrow to make this announcement. Rumor is spreading that he will attend the LA Clipper and OKC Thunder NBA game tomorrow evening. I have been told that signs will be permitted inside the arena as long as they are not offensive —— to the Thunder! Please help me with ideas for multiple signs to display. Shorter the better, but positive towards the Thunder. I’d like to make local sports broadcast. I am confident he will be met with a very loud chorus of boos when identified. After all, Oklahoma is the only state in the Union that he did not carry one county.

Will the Oklahoma voters be dumb enough to fall for this?

No.

There has been for years a bottleneck at Cushing, OK. More oil coming in than could be pumped out to the refineries in the Gulf. This is an important piece of infrastructure.

Whether Obama can take credit for it, I don't know.

There have been breaks, but there are automatic shutoffs built into the system if the pressure drops

There are breaks but..........

‘SHAFER’ AUTOMATIC LINE-BREAK VALVE

‘Shafer’ Line Break Valves are fitted at intervals along the length of a particularly long pipeline.

The function of these valves, is to close automatically in the event of a ‘Line-break’ (rupture of the pipeline). Should such an event occur, the Shafer valves will ‘sense’ the large, sustained pressure drop in the affected section of pipe. Two valves will trip ‘closed’ and isolate the section involved.

You mean like California is ‘fast tracking” the state’s high speed rail, by building the section from Corcoran to Bakersfield?

First, “the Bridge to Nowhere”.
Next, “The Train to Nowhere.”
Now, “The Pipeline FROM Nowhere.”

Not to worry. If there’s a leak, Obama will personally see to it that it’s capped, just like he did the Deepwater Horizon well.

There have been a lot of issues in that area in the past. Now, it wasn’t the same type of pipeline, and was smaller (there used to be some oil refineries out that way), but one of the ranchers I know lost a decent chunk of range because a poorly maintained pipeline that leaked.

There were some tests that suggested the ground water was contaminated, and if you know that area people have killed over water in the not so distant past. They are concerned and want more assurances that won’t happen again.

Isn’t that already permitted? Didn’t Keystone announce a couple weeks ago they were building that leg. So is Barry swooping in to try to take credit?

Yup.
