Actor Robert De Niro opened a fundraiser starring Michelle Obama by listing her Republican rivals and jokingly suggesting that America isn't "ready for a white first lady." Newt Gingrich was not amused, and the Obama campaign says the quip was inappropriate.
Gingrich on Tuesday called De Niro's comment "inexcusable" and demanded an apology from President Barack Obama.
"I think that Robert De Niro's wrong," Gingrich said at a campaign stop in Shreveport, La. "The country is ready for a new first lady, and he doesn't have to describe it in racial terms."

"We believe the joke was inappropriate," said Mrs. Obama's campaign press secretary, Olivia Alair. She declined further comment.

Excellent. DeNiro passes gas in an elevator and the President is asked to apologize.
Take it to ‘em Newt!
I love seeing the leftists alinskyed.
They just didn’t seem to think it could work both ways.
Inappropriate is not the word I would have used.
I did several search, because I thought this might have been posted.
See you are still after Newt or it's over your head. Race should have not been
brought up- new first lady, why is the reference to race even mentioned. >
-> America isn’t ready for a white first lady.

I am sorry-I clicked the wrong person’s name-I meant for my post/comment to go to the author of this thread.
You're right. Newt overreacted.
That’s what happens when the President, his wife and their administration hang with the Hollyweirdo’s. They can’t control what they say and it ends up that they sound ridiculous. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when De Niro spewed this one! LOL! I was always told as a kid, “watch out who you hang with, it can make the wrong impression”. Guess they are the ones my parents warned me about.

No he didn’t overreact. He got an apology, didn’t he?
Bambi ran on being black the last time around. The time to take race out of this campaign is now, and Gingrich was the only one who had the guts to say this.
Then I must be missing something.
Actually, I think Newt knew exactly what he was doing. Taking the race card to the Obamas for once. What you have to understand about Newt, he irritates the WH... and the WH responds to him...
It's too bad some people can't fathom how important that is regarding the upcoming election.
No, he didn’t get an apology. Obama said it was inappropriate. Obama wouldn’t know a good joke if it bit him. It wasn’t even directed at Gingrich or his wife.
It was funny, but it is interesting to see Obama having to play under the PC rules.
It was a joke by a private citizen, playing on the “we aren’t ready for the first “X” candidate” meme.
