~Favorite "Dance" Songs~

*Safety Dance - Men Without Hats*

We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're, no friends of mine

Say, we can go where we want to
A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind
And we can dance, "dansez"

We can go when we want to
Night is young and so am I
And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
And surprise them with a victory cry

Say, we can act if we want to
If we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude and totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile

And say

We can dance, we can dance
Everything's out of control
We can dance, we can dance
We're doing it from pole to pole

We can dance, we can dance
Everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance
Everybody's taking the chance

its a Safety dance
Oh well its safe to dance
Yes it safe to dance

We can dance if we want to
We've got all your life and mine
As long as we abuse it, never going to lose it
Everything will work out right

I say, We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine

I say, we can dance, we can dance
Everything's out of control
We can dance, we can dance
We're doing it from pole to pole

We can dance, we can dance
Everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance
Everybody's taking the chance

Well it's safe to dance
Yes it's safe to dance
Well it's safe to dance
Well it's safe to dance
Yes it's safe to dance
Well it's safe to dance
Well it's safe to dance

It's a Safety Dance
Well it's a Safety Dance
Oh it's a Safety Dance
Oh it's a Safety Dance
Well it's a Safety Dance

*Garth Brooks - The Dance*

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have chanced it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Yes my life is better left to chance I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance

*I Could Have Danced All Night - My Fair Lady*

Bed, bed, I couldn't go to bed
My head's too light to try to set it down
Sleep, sleep, I couldn't sleep tonight
Not for all the jewels in the crown

I could have danced all night
I could have danced all night
And still have begged for more

I could have spread my wings
And done a thousand things
I've never done before

I'll never know what made it so exciting
Why all at once my heart took flight
I only know when he began to dance with me
I could have danced, danced, danced all night

It's after three now
Don't you agree now?
She ought to be in bed

I could have danced all night
(You're tired out, you must be dead)
I could have danced all night
(Your face is drawn, your eyes are red)
And still have begged for more
(Now say goodnight, turn out the light)
(Please, it's really time for you to be in bed)

I could have spread my wings
(Do come along, do as you're told)
And done a thousand things, I've never done before
(Or Mrs. Pierce is apt to stir)
(You're up too late, please, it sure is late)
(Miss, you'll catch a cold)

I'll never know what made it so exciting
Why all at once my heart took flight
I only know when he began to dance with me
(Put down your book, the work'll keep)
(Now settle down and go to sleep)
I could have danced, danced, danced all night

I understand, dear
It's all been grand, dear
But now it's time to sleep

I could have danced all night
I could have danced all night and still have begged for more
I could have spread my wings
And done a thousand things, I'd never done before

I'll never know what made it so exciting
Why all at once my heart took flight
I only know when he began to dance with me
I could have danced, danced, danced all night

Shake Your Groove Thing lyricsSend “Shake Your Groove Thing” Ringtone to your Cell
Shake it, shake it

Shake your groove thing
Shake your groove thing, yeah yeah
Show ‘em how we do it now

Shake your groove thing
Shake your groove thing, yeah yeah
Show ‘em how we do it now
Show ‘em how we do it now

Let’s show the world we can dance
Bad enough to strut our stuff
The music gives us a chance
We do more out on the floor
Groovin’ loose or heart to heart
We put in motion every single part
Funky sounds wall to wall
We’re bumpin’ booties havin us a ball y’all

Shake your groove thing
Shake your groove thing, yeah yeah
Show ‘em how we do it now
(repeat)

We’ve got the rhythm tonight
All the rest know we’re the best
Our shadows flash in moonlight
Twistin’, turnin’, we keep burnin’
Shake it high or shake it low
We take our bodies where they want to go
Feel that beat, never stop
Or hold me tight, spin me like a top

Shake your groove thing
Shake your groove thing, yeah yeah
Show ‘em how we do it now
(repeat)

There’s nothing more that I like to do
Than take the floor and dance with you
Keep dancin’
Let’s keep dancin’

Shake it, shake it

Shake it, shake it

Groovin’ loose or heart to heart
We put in motion every single part
Funky sounds wall to wall
We’re bumpin’ booties havin us a ball y’all

Shake your groove thing
Shake your groove thing, yeah yeah
Show ‘em how we do it now

Shake your groove thing
Shake your groove thing, yeah yeah
Show ‘em how we do it now, yeah

Shake it

Show ‘em how we do it now, yeah

Shake it, shake it

Have you seen her? So fine and pretty
Fooled me with her style and ease
And I feel her from across the room
Yes, it’s love in the third degree...

Much better but not by much. I think things started turning around again after I awoke and turned on the news.

But a Big Time ((HUGS)) from you makes things right as rain again! ( Speaking of rain, I'm headed out into the weather in mere moments.)

Good evening, Connie!

*HUGS*

Thanks very much for tonight's Favorite Dance Song thread! I just can't pick one out of such an embarrassment of riches! High on the list would have to be "Where or When" and "Theme to a Summer Place." Remember a lot of those sock-hops - Santo and Johnny "Sleep Walk." The list is endless - just give me some time to dredge them out of memory - it's been many a year since I have heard some of them.

Today would be the 85th birthday of my late mother. She's been gone for twenty years - still leaves a tremendous sense of loss.

If you don't mind, I have a memorial to post for her. It is fitting that it should be in this thread - she was very musical - played clarinet and had a beautiful singing voice.

Nos genuflectitur ad non princeps sed Princeps Pacem!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

When the deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls
And the stars begin to twinkle in the sky—
In the mist of a memory you wander back to me
Breathing my name with a sigh.

And to liven things up........

Well, you know you make me wanna’
(Shout) Kick my heels up and
(Shout) Throw my hands up and
(Shout) Throw my head back and
(Shout) Come on now
(Shout) Don’t forget to say you will
