Allen West Calls Trayvon Martin Shooting an ‘Outrage’ and Endorses Federal Investigation
The Blaze ^ | March 22, 2012 | Mytheos Holt

Ever since his CPAC Keynote Address in 2010, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) has been one of the gold standards of modern American political conservatism. He has also been widely hailed as a political model for conservative African American politicians. And now, following recent revelations surrounding the highly suspicious shooting of Trayvon Martin, Rep. West has joined a growing bipartisan consensus calling for the case to be reopened, possibly even with Federal assistance. West’s statement, put out today by Talking Points Memo, resonates with controlled fury (emphasis added):

itself in Sanford, Florida involving the shooting of 17-year-old Treyvon Martin. First of all, if all that has been reported is accurate, the Sanford Police Chief should be relieved of his duties due to what appears to be a mishandling of this shooting in its early stages. The US Navy SEALS identified Osama Bin Laden within hours, while this young man laid on a morgue slab for three days. The shooter, Mr Zimmerman, should have been held in custody and certainly should not be walking free, still having a concealed weapons carry permit. From my reading, it seems this young man was pursued and there was no probable cause to engage him, certainly not pursue and shoot him….against the direction of the 911 responder. Let’s all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason. I have signed a letter supporting a DOJ investigation. I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need the responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.

My stating there is conflicting information does not detract from my belief that the local law enforcement did a lousy job of handling their “investigation”. But, given your nature of believing yourself to be superior to all others, it’s understandable that you’d miss that.

What a stupid ****ing post.

Jesus Christ.

Glad you liked it. I'm not so sure the Guy you cite would agree, however — I don't believe Martin had a duty to turn the other cheek. But I do believe Martin had an absolute right to walk back from the store unmolested by the neighborhood nazi.

Oh, and if you're curious about what's behind the asterisks in your reply, I recommend you listen closely to the 911 audio. Focus starting at about 2:20. Then look up the legal meaning of animus.

Myopic, are you? You focussed on one aspect, and a rather small one at that. Whether the firearm had been or had not been processed has little to do with what initated the physical confrontation prior to the shooting.

There has been no evidence presented which supports the contention that the 17 year was doing or had done or was going to do anything illegal.

A man who witnessed part of the altercation contacted authorities.

"The guy on the bottom, who had a red sweater on, was yelling to me, 'Help! Help!' and I told him to stop, and I was calling 911," said the witness, who asked to be identified only by his first name, John.

John said he locked his patio door, ran upstairs and heard at least one gun shot.

"And then, when I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on the top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point."

Is it illegal to beat people up?

>> So much for West!

Trolling down for the first anti-West remark, you're the victim of my trite criticism.

Not that this much attention is ever given to Black on Hispanic White violence, it's yet one of those cases that screams 'tragedy' for the innocent 'victim' caught in the cross-hairs of patriotic vigilantism. /semi-satirical...

Hell, mistakes happen. If the shooter wanted to pop a thug, plenty of places besides one's property to do so — not that I do such things — seriously.

Anyway, West is a Florida official (his turf), and if there's a connection to PC 'civil rights', so be it. If the suspicion of pandering pans out, it's the exception for this fine American. We gotta' take Allen in his entirety. He is fighting from the corner.

If you do not know how dangerous the other person is or where may be, you extricate yourself from the situation immediately. You don’t wait to find out.

You may read through the thread and get the answers you seek on your own. I’m not going to re-hash what I’ve stated over and over already yet again.

But it does have to do with your contention that the police did a bad job of investigating doesn't it?

Typical politician.
It’s a shame when even a stand-up guy like West thinks it’s necessary to pander to the scumbag Democrat “mainstream” press. The proper statement would be: “Let’s get all the facts, first.” How hard is that to say, rather than knee-jerk a wild call for another “investigation”?

So what’s the deal with the shooter, is he guilty? There’s a lot of noise on this story that I haven’t yet filtered out.

LOL, I just made a vain attempt to defend West in #206.

Well, if the state and local authorities can’t handle it and are firing their police chief, where’s to turn for justice? There’s only one federal government. Unfortunately, it’s currently in unfriendly hands. But that doesn’t mean individual rights must be subordinated to states rights.

I don’t know whether he is guilty or not. I’ll let others pretend they know what happened.

My mistake, as Martin was not aware of who this man was, he should have waited and took a bullet, then pounded the crap out of him.

i’ve seen over the course of the past 7 years probably hundreds of unknown individuals walking, biking, skateboarding, rollerblading, driving, etc, etc, through my neighborhood. No one has yet shot and killed a single one. I live in a neighborhood which is predominately white. We’ve had people of all colors, races, creeds, etc that have gone up and down our street. Yet, no one’s been beaten up, shot, nor killed. It is a poor argument that it is okay to stalk, and then shoot someone for the simple reason of being somemone who isn’t know to the person doing the shooting. Here’s some facts you should consider. There is a dead 17 year old. There has been no evidence presented which supports the contention that the 17 year was doing or had done or was going to do anything illegal. Are you suggesting that you are fine with these facts?

Please stop with the hyperbole. You make it sound like Zimmerman was dressed in camo with Martin in his sites. Just because I can recognize that the facts do not support your chosen version of events doesn't mean I'm happy about the outcome. What's more, I'd be willing to bet Mr. Zimmerman isn't very happy about what happened either. How about all the witnesses who instead of going out and stopping the altercation hid behind their doors as they called the police. Think they're happy? This is a textbook picture of tragedy. Unavoidable in life, and serves no purpose to senselessly persecute someone unfortunate enough to be an unwitting player.

You've got nothing. Zero. Zilch. All that is there is information that the 17 year old was hitting Zimmerman. You've got nothing which definitively proves the 17 year old initiated the confrontation or started a fight.

When I was in high school I worked at a bowling alley in town. During league bowling a fight broke out inside the bowling alley. I was in the back when the fight broke out. When I came out from the back I saw my dad chocking out a very large man between two of the lanes and another man sitting on the chest of a guy beating his face to a pulp (literally). Should I have jumped immediately to the belief that my dad and this other man were the ones who initiated the fight? If so, why? If not, why not? Why are you and others accepting of one man's story where there are no witnesses which can verify his claims of self-defense, and where there is no evidence that the person killed had done a single thing wrong other than be in a confrontation with someone who could have initiated that confrontation?

I hadn’t heard that they fired the police chief. The news today was that he voluntarily stepped down temporarily. Do you have a link to news of his firing or is this more of your trolling BS?

Apparently Zimmerman let Martin pound him quite a bit before Martin took a bullet.

He assaulted Zimmerman 1st, and if you conceal carry and you feel your life is threatened you can kill that person. The libtards will use this to try and take away our gun rights and you so called conservatives that support this are disgusting.
