Video Uncovered: Romney in ‘02: ‘Only Connection’ to the Republican Party Is My Party Registration
The Blaze ^ | 3/23/12

With his conservative credentials still taking fire over “Etch A Sketchgate,” Mitt Romney is facing a new potential obstacle to his argument that he is unfailingly a Republican.

A 2002 clip, posted Friday on BuzzFeed, shows then-Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate Romney declaring that his “only connection” to the Republican Party in the state is that “I’m registered as a Republican.”

Don’t know much about Mormonism do you?

BTW, I don’t hate Mormons, I pray for them and I cry for them, but I don’t hate them.

I do hate Romney, but I would hate him regardless of his religion. He could be a born again Christian and I would SILL hate him just as much. I hate him because he is an evil socialist who is lying to make people think he is a Republican.

I can’t believe how many people on here are so stupid as to be falling for the idea that Romney will be any better than Obama. He won’t.

The Massachusetts health plan, Romneycare if you prefer, was put together by the health policy guy at the Heritage Foundation. In fact, he was there for the signing of it. Heritage is hardly a leftist organization. There is a difference between what a state does for its people and what the federal government requires of them.

Those who want conservative purity will always come up short, as peoples views change as do the context for their decisions. If you think Romney was too liberal in Massachusetts, consider that his legislature was about 80% Democrat. Yet he balanced the budgets there while governor, during economic times when none of us would have cared if he hadn’t. Santorum never made control of spending a priority while he was in Washington, and he voted for No Child Left Behind and the Medicare prescription drug legislation. Why does he get a pass and Romney doesn’t.

And please remember that our model of conservatism, Ronald Reagan, raised enormous taxes during his term as governor of California. Yet he was able to get tax cuts through a Democratic Congress while president.

Not sure why you can call him a Crony Capitalist, since those people tend to have to spend lots of time in government to provide tax deals etc, that benefit their cronies.

Nice try, you disagree with me and I’m a “sleeper troll”. That’s original. And you support who?

You can’t be helped. There’s a difference between Romney not being conservative and Romney being no different from Obama. His past executive experience should be indicative of what he would do as President.

If you believe that’s no different than Obama, then you’re not living in the real world.

I will pray for you that you lose that hate.
I have at least 10 Mormon friends. My ex-daughter-in-law was raised in a Mormon family. Yes, I do know something about their religion. I don’t agree with it, but I certainly don’t hate them.

I must tell you that hate you feel comes across in your posts. Anyone who is not filled with hate can see it plain as day.
I wish you well and hope you can overcome that hatefulness you feel towards Romney. God be with you.

I agree, he (Romney) has real world experience in business. Obama has now real experience other than riling up the less educated to get them more food stamps, welfare and to hate rich white folks.

He is still doing the only job he knows only know he’s doing it from our WH.

I don’t believe for a moment that Romney would be inciting race riots and encouraging people to avoid work and draw unemployment for years at a time.

There are so many differences in the two men that anyone who isn’t filled with hate for Romney would see that.

So do a bunch of other anti-Romney FReepers.

And you support who?

This isn't about me, it's about you being an apologist for Mitt-Witt, do you support Romney, yes or no?

I wonder if these people are just blinded by hate or actually leftist plants. I mean, if you took the absolute worst of all of Romney’s executive experience both in business and as the head of a very liberal state, it would still be objectively far better than anything Obama has done.

Yes, I support Romney. That doesn’t make me an apologist for him.

I would hope that on a website like this, we could disagree without lighting the torches to burn each other’s castle down.

So, who do YOU support? Or are you the only one to ask the questions?

???
Hey if the Heritage Foundation, developed Marxist Obamneycare, then they have jumped the shark.

I am not crazy about Santorum or Newt, but both are head and shoulders above Mittens.

I hope for a Brokered convention and would not be unhappy if selection of Romney caused a donnybrook inside the convention between the RINOs and Patriots.....that finally either sounds the death knell for the Republican Party or resurrection of the Republican Party.

you can be with the RINOs.

Yes, I support Romney.

Sniff the air Sparky, that just might be a waft of ozone coming your way.

That doesn’t make me an apologist for him.

Your post #11 suggests otherwise.

I would hope that on a website like this, we could disagree without lighting the torches to burn each other’s castle down.

Perhaps you didn't get the memo:

Romney Supporters Banned From Free Republic
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2800991/posts

Posted on Tuesday, November 01, 2011 4:05:31 PM by Jim Robinson

Free Republic founder Jim Robinson has a message for supporters of Mitt Romney: go away.

In an email to POLITICO this afternoon, Robinson admitted that the site routinely blocks Romney supporters from posting -- and offered no apologies for the practice:

"Free Republic is a pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-small government, pro-constitution, pro-liberty site. Governor Romney is none of the above. His record is that of an abortionist, gay rights pushing, gun grabbing, global warming advocating, big government, mandate loving, constitution trampling, flip-flopping liberal progressive with no core values. That and the fact that he is the chief architect and advocate for ObamaCare disqualifies him for any consideration whatsoever on Free Republic as a potential nominee for the presidency."

So, who do YOU support? Or are you the only one to ask the questions?

I support Newt, as does our esteemed Founder.

If you support Romney, you are no conservative, and you've got no business being on a true conservative website.

I like Romney so I have to be a RINO? Whatever

Perhaps you should verify the Heritage Foundation’s role in Romneycare. It’s all verifiable. An insurance mandate at the state level is a bit different than an insurance mandate at the federal level. And an healthcare program that covers all Americans is probably a good thing. What screws it up is when politicians add to what is mandated as coverage, as this is what increases the cost and makes it unaffordable.

If Romney wins 1144 votes, why would that bother you? Each state voted. Why deny the will of the voters? And if you think a brokered convention would produce a better candidate, someone who wasn’t interested enough in running during the primary, but will step in three months before the election. That would be a heyday for the Democrats, who could drag every piece of tripe about the candidate in the three months before the election. At least with the present candidates, pretty much everything that has been said has already been said, so the Dems won’t be able to make as much hay out of it.

I repeat: you support Romney means you’re a sell out and NO conservative. You can kid yourself but don’t try to sell the rest of us that bill of goods.

I know this is a conservative site and not a Republican site but this vile hatred of a man who is on our side of the aisle is just beyond belief.
Perhaps you are right, they must be leftists trying to split the vote in favor of Obama.
I certainly hope this hatred isn’t because of his religion. That seems to be the only other possiblity. I would rather believe they are all leftists.

I wasn’t aware Free Republic was into ethnic cleansing for political purity.

You support Newt, you say. What about his public service announcements about the crisis of Global Warming? I believe those were with Pelosi. Sponsored by Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Change. Supporting cleaner energy. He now says it was a mistake. So I presume you forgive him for that?

Romney changed his stance on abortion. Rather than praise him as a convert, you convict him for his former view. How can you be sure Newt won’t go for the Globaloney and Green energy crap?

Romneycare was created with extensive help from the Heritage Foundation. Not exactly a bastion of Liberalism. And Newt supported individual mandates before he didn’t support them.

Is Romney perfect? No. But none of the others are either. Its just a matter of how much in each candidate you’re willing to overlook.

If Free Republic chooses to block me, so be it.

*PING* to JimRob,

"I wasn’t aware Free Republic was into ethnic cleansing for political purity."

Say Boss? I didn't know you were an 'ethnic cleanser', guess you didn't get the memo from 'Sir Clancelot' eh?

You support Newt, you say. What about his public service announcements about the crisis of Global Warming? I believe those were with Pelosi. Sponsored by Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Change. Supporting cleaner energy. He now says it was a mistake. So I presume you forgive him for that?

Newt has more than redeemed himself with conservatives, and the only bottom feeders who are still trying to beat him over the head with the above mentioned 'global warming' deviation are the GOP elites, RINOs and (*gasp*) attack trolls in the pay of, or volunteering their services to Mitt-Witt.

Romney changed his stance on abortion. Rather than praise him as a convert, you convict him for his former view. How can you be sure Newt won’t go for the Globaloney and Green energy crap?

Tell ya what Sparky, even IF in your hypothetical world Newt were to once again embrace that whole global warming craziness, I think that most conservatives would cut him much more slack, than to trust your boy Mitt when it comes to the subject of abortion. He all but bent over and offered to be anally penetrated by NARAL and the pro-abortion crowd in his now infamous September 2002 meeting prior to his run for Governor in Massachusetts when he suggested that they could "use his voice in Washington" in moderating the pro-life position of the GOP. Mitt changes his positions like a weather vane in a damn tornado, and you think he can be trusted? BWHHAHAA!!!

Romneycare was created with extensive help from the Heritage Foundation. Not exactly a bastion of Liberalism. And Newt supported individual mandates before he didn’t support them.

Romneycare was wrong, and if the Heritage Foundation had anything to do with it, they were wrong too. Newt is on the record for not only opposing 0bamaCare, but repealing it. You and your fellow RomneyBots fail to comprehend that IF Romney is the nominee, his Romneycare abomination will be just one of countless targets upon his back that the 'Rats will aim their fire.

Is Romney perfect? No. But none of the others are either. Its just a matter of how much in each candidate you’re willing to overlook.

Romney is FAR from perfect, in fact he would be more at home in the 'Rat Party because (brace yourself now) HE IS A LIBERAL from a LIBERAL STATE, and any conservative that lacks the inner moral compass and votes for that lying sack o' sh*t has merely voted for '0bama-lite' and we all damn well know it. 0bama is pouring socialism down our throats, Romney will simply serve it up in crystal goblets.

If Free Republic chooses to block me, so be it.

That's up to JimRob, but if you had any class at all, you would just opus your Romney-lovin' ass right on outta here.

While Obamacare was being debated, Newt was taking a million bucks from Fannie or Freddie doing “consulting” work, or as others might interpret it, lobbying conservatives on Capitol Hill to take a favorable view to them.

Newt supported the personal mandate. Not sure how you get around that one.

Newt has redeemed himself with conservatives for his global warming video with Pelosi? OK, and he thought Ryan’s budget plan last June was “conservative social engineering”. I think Ryan’s plans have been reasonable and worthy of discussion.

I have enjoyed this website for 13 years. If participating is now dependent on which Republican candidate I support, then I think it is a sad day for conservatism. If you and I can’t disagree without you suggesting I “opus my Romney-lovin’ ass right on outta here”, then what is there left for you to discuss if everyone here is a Newt-lover? Maybe we can share a room when Newt colonizes the moon.
