Obama’s First Ford ‘Rattled and Shook up'

President Obama kicked his PR campaign on gas prices into a higher gear Wednesday, giving what is believed to be the first ever presidential interview to AAA.

“I understand what folks are going through because it wasn’t that long ago that I was having to fill up my gas tank and drive to work, shuttle the kids back and forth to school or events, and it takes a big bite out of folks paychecks,” Obama told the motorist group, which has 53 million members.

The interview, which appears online and in AAA publications today, is the latest indication that Obama is worried about rising gas prices and their political impact headed into the summer and fall.

The president also recalls his former membership in AAA and driving his first car, his grandfather’s 1970s Ford Granada.

“The Ford Granada was not the peak of Detroit engineering,” he said. “It rattled and it shook, and I don’t think the girls were particularly impressed when I came to pick them up in a Ford Granada,” he said. “But you know what? It moved and so I have fond memories of the fact that it got me to where I needed to go. That’s about all I can say about the Ford Granada.”

Wow, maybe there is sdomething here....I lived with an avowed communist woman for about 10 years. It really didnt bother me, I always looked at her politics in a “bless her heart” sort of way. She also drove a 1979 4 door sedan Granada. Had the emblem gold plated and on the bedroom wall while the car rotted and crept its way to the junkyard.

You reminded me of the time he was pinning the Medal of Honor on a returning soldier and the only thing he could think of to say was something along the lines of...”this reminds me of the time *I* got the Nobel Peace Prize...” (subtext: this aint nothing. i’ve done better)

It was something like that. He was trying to distract from the soldier and bring everything back to himself, as he always does. If he could, I'm sure he would award himself the Medal of Honor. And the worst part is, he would believe it.

If he were Kim-jung-il, no one would know the difference. Obama is just like all the crazy despots all throughout history. He is just like them in every way.

That was my first thought, too. On the other hand, the Granada was a horrible car.

My Dad bought one new in '76 (I think) and it was pretty to my 23 year old eyes. He constantly bragged that he'd paid $5000 which was what a Lincoln cost in the fifties.

Dear old Dad wasn't really aware that the dollar was collapsing or that, unfortunately, so was the Granada. Nonetheless, Obama should not have disparaged Ford.

After all, Dad and I, both forgave Ford for the Granada and stayed loyal Ford owners all our lives.

The American small cars of the ‘70s and ‘80s were JUNK! I had a Ford Escort that blew a gasket and a Chevette that developed a hole in the floor — a problem so common it was called Chevette Floor Cancer. They’re better now. My Focus is wonderful. But Detroit lost an entire generation to the Japanese with cars like the Granada.

I am so done with this president. I’m to the point that I don’t care if Ron Paul gets the nomination AB0. I’m at the point where everytime he opens his mouth I scream, “You’re such an a$$!!!” at the radio. The latest is on the shooting in Fla. Already he’s trying to politicize it the same way he did with Gabby Gifford. Now you have Calypso Louie and Rev. Al “9-1-1” Sharpton of Crown Heights riot fame stirring up trouble.

Although I admit I have to cut down on my weight, a good thing, there are times I'm on short rations. I'm just as sick as you. There are days I want to go out in my yard and wave my .22LR rifle over my head (C. Bammycare has got me scared for my parents, Mom, 73 and Dad, 74. Now, we have Buchenwald Barack who could end up denying them healthcare if and when they need it.

I'm just a poor, Pittsburgh Hunky trying to make it as an auto parts delivery driver. I'm trying to get back into IT. I'm trying to do my best to take care of Mom and my cats. I want to do much better, I'm trying my best, but the deck is stacked against all of us right now. I want to do the right thing.

I listen to talk radio a lot as I drive around, both in my work truck and my Blazer. There are times I have to switch to music for a while (I love the 1980's the best although the 1950's were good too, a time when things were right with America) otherwise my work truck will have a hole where the radio would be. I don't think my boss would like a hole in his dashboard or for the Blazer, my father who bought it for me for Christmas.

We have to speak with one voice and support the GOP pick. WE have to realize we will not get all of what we want, but we stand a good chance to get most of what we want with any of them, Romney, Paul, Santorum, Gingrich than with BO. We need to stick together. I would even vote for a goat, a used beer can or even Saddam Hussein over the Bamster anyday.

Like you, I need to vent. Ever since Bammy took over, I can see my hair turn greyer each day. I know I'm 45, but it seems like it got kicked into high gear in the last year or so. I know a friend who has gotten more epileptic seizures ever since Bammy got in. The "need" for psychiatric drugs have gone up too with anxiety and all.

In 1977, Mom was looking at a Granada, but at $6000, she said, "too much" and bought a 1977 Cougar for $5600. I still have it, but I need time and money to get it back on the road. The Granada looked good but with the mechanical problems, I'm glad she didn't buy one. I just got rid of a 1994 Ford "Exploder," I can't talk smack against it but I have various weird problems. One was electrical, my tailights didn't work and after 2 weeks and $800 poorer, they could not find out why so they had to rewire the whole mess. Like all Explorers of that vintage, the right rear rocker panel rusted out and the top of the rear fenders. It ate brake shoes, pads, rotors and drums like a mother.

Just got a 1999 Blazer, it rides a lot better and hopefully will be much kinder to me. Had to drop a fuel pump into it, but they say the original goes at 100,000 miles, I had 100,800 at the time so that's par for the course.

The thing would have had to have been at least 20 years old at the time, and it would have been just a few pieces of rust on the road with the salt used in Chicago at least 10 years before the oldest girl was born!

My brother-in-law still drives his '94 Explorer. He's had good luck with his. We're like that, though. I won't give up my '97 F-250, either. My biggest gripe with it is that all my cassette tapes have worn out.
