Obama Assumes Dictatorial Powers
Dick Morris.Com ^ | March 23, 2012 | Dick Morris

With two presidential signatures- one on New Year’s Day and the other issued last week – President Barack Obama has assumed the right to assert dictatorial powers over almost all aspects of the U.S. economy and to hold American citizens indefinitely without trial!

On New Year’s Day, Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to fund the Pentagon. But smuggled into its language is an explicit authority “allowing him to indefinitely detain [US] citizens” according to Jonathan Turley writing in the U.K. Guardian newspaper.

While the story was buried in the American media, Turley notes that it is “one of the greatest rollbacks of civil liberties” in American history.

Perhaps even more terrifying is the executive order President Obama signed on Friday, March 16 giving him vast powers to control every aspect of the U.S. economy in the event of war or even during a peacetime “emergency.” Edwin Black, writing for the liberal-oriented Huffington Post, says that the order “may have quietly placed the United States on a war preparedness footing” possibly in anticipation of “an outbreak of war between Israel, the West, and Iran.”

Congress has the power to roll those EOs back and eliminate them. The fact they haven’t moved to do so is frightening.

I’ve had it in my head that, should Obama lose the November election, he will attempt to seize power and rule as a dictator.

Then again, I think the cleaners shrunk my tin foil hat. It’s pressing on my brain.

What if a two bit black man took control of a country and no one listened?

Hmmm... Normally I am leery of anything the toe-sucker says, but it seems he is sticking his neck out a bit farther than usual with this.

Of course, he’s been written off by the Dems and Libs since the end of the Clinton regime, and has been distrusted by Conservatives for just as long, but the pragmatic folks on on both sides just shrugged off his rightward drift as a professional move aimed at keeping the cash flowing.

This seems to have stepped over a line. It would almost be as bad as taking up the eligibility issue as far as the MSM and the Libs are concerned because he directly assaulting Obama — which he has not really done up to this point.

The repercussions here could be interesting. Worth keeping an eye on.

Which should tell us something about the members of congress belonging to *both parties*.

And, as expected, Congress assumes the fetal position.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)was legislation passed through congress, not an EO.

Yes, we should be concerned.

What are the odds of that? That's like saying that some day America could ever elect a communist muslim president.

Would love to read something of objective analysts about this rather than “see I told you he was a dictator” from the excitable crowd.

For the second time this month, Congress has passed a short-term continuing resolution and avoid a government shutdown. And for the second time, this was accomplished at the cost of dropping a provision that would have prevented the use of government funds to implement Obamacare. It raises the question, then, of just how committed the Republican leadership really is to killing Obamacare.

It is worth remembering that House Republicans did NOT include the cutoff in health-care funding as part of their original CR proposal. It was added as an amendment after a mini-rebellion by House conservatives. And the leadership was quick to jettison it at the first sign of Democratic objection. Now it appears that House Republican leaders have blinked yet again.

Apparently it is more important to keep the government open than to stand up against the most massive threat to limited government and individual liberty in recent history.

In fact, one wonders what the Republican leadership is doing to stop Obamacare. Sure, they took a vote to repeal it. But since there was no chance that a repeal bill could get through the Senate and past a presidential veto, the vote was mostly symbolic.

Since then, what have Republicans done? There was another vote calling for various committees to propose an alternative health-care reform. Where is it? Where are the votes on proposals to kill some of the more unpopular aspects of the health-care law? What about the individual mandate? The employer mandate? The new taxes? What about CLASS Act, the long-term care program? Even Secretary Sebelius says that it won’t work as currently structured. Why has there been no vote to repeal that?

Cutting off funding for Obamacare now is all the more important because the administration is pushing full speed ahead on implementation. And the sad fact is that Obama is all too often being aided by Republicans.

Not on those E.O.s, but here is some great testimony from Attny George Mannina on Obama’s Ocean Policy, which is essentially executive legislation superceding existing statute. It sets up a regional governance board of federal agencies and tribes. It exempts itself from judicial review and eliminates due process. (This might be logical enough for you.)

Congress has known all about Obama. They are all guilty of being accessories to treason.

Me too. I do not believe he will go quietly. He may do it by fomenting civil unrest (as he is doing now) or he may just start a war somewhere to hold on to power.

It is important to note, that the he is a big, huge, supporter and friend of the Muslim Brotherhood. Those are the guys who he gave almost all of North Africa to, using American armed forces to do it. And, he has been nothing but deferential and cooperative with Iran. Both of these entities are terrorist organizations and they owe him a favor.

They may do some kind of attack big enough to keep their friend and brother in power over the evil White Infidels.

Anything could happen. I don't think it is going to be good no matter what happens.

I'm inclined to think he's going to capitalize on the Sunni vs. Shiite division and go after Iran. He'll have the Brotherhood on his side, as well as Israel.

I've got a sinking feeling that we're cooked.

I'm convinced CONGRESS is unconsciously going through the motions and literally doesn't have a CLUE as to what's happening on their watch.
