~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Dyess Air Force Base, Texas

Dyess Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located approximately 7 miles west-southeast of Abilene, Texas.

The host unit at Dyess is the 7th Bomb Wing (7 BW) assigned to the Air Combat Command Twelfth Air Force. The 7 BW is one of only two B-1B Lancer strategic bomber wings in the United States Air Force, the other being the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota.

Dyess AFB is a 6,409 acre base with over 13,000 military and civilian people. It is home to the 7th Bomb Wing, which consists of four groups. Two squadrons, the 9th and 28th Bomb Squadrons, fly the B-1B. In addition, the 28th Bomb Squadron is the Air Force schoolhouse for all B-1B aircrew members. The base is located in the southwest corner of Abilene, TX and is about 200 miles west of Dallas. The base employs more than 5,000 people, making it the single largest employer in the area.

On Oct. 1, 1993, the 7th was inactivated at Carswell and activated at Dyess, integrating the operations of the B-1B and C-130. The diverse 7th Wing was born and for the next three and half years, operated around the globe. The wing reorganized April 1, 1997, as the 7th Bomb Wing and gave operational control of the C-130s to the Air Mobility Command.

Now, the 7th BW is the premier operational B-1B unit in the U.S. Air Force. It has the capability to project lethal airpower anywhere in the world and strike at a moment's notice. That B-1 lethality manifested itself Dec. 18, 1998, while assigned to the 28th Air Expeditionary Bomb Group. During Operation DESERT FOX, a Dyess B-1 matched with a B-1 from Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., bombed an Iraqi Republican Guard barracks at Al-Kut, Iraq, with 500-pound MK-82s. This first ever-combat bomb drop displayed the destructive firepower of the B-1 and echoed the battle cry "MORS AB ALTO".

The Real Thing

March 27, 2012

A church in Naperville, Illinois, is basking in excitement about its brand-new bells in the belfry above its sanctuary. When the church was built many years ago, they didn’t have the money to purchase bells. However, for its 25th anniversary they were able to raise the funds to hang three bells in the vacant space. Even though they are stunning, there is one problem: the congregation will never hear the bells ring. Although they look real, they are artificial.

The apostle John wrote his first epistle to encourage believers not to just look like real Christians, but to prove they are genuine by how they live. The evidence that a person’s faith is real is not found in some mystical experience with God. The proof that people truly know and love God is found in submitting to His authority and to His Word. John writes, “But whoever keeps His Word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 John 2:5-6).

If we claim that we have been transformed by the gospel and intimately know and love God, we should validate it by our obedience to His Word.

Don’t listen to the Word of God
And then ignore what you have heard;
Instead obey God’s will for you—
Be doers of the Word. —Sper
Obedience to God is an expression of our love for God.

Read: 1 John 2:3-11

Whoever keeps His Word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. —1 John 2:5

The B-1B is, IMHO, the most beautiful airplane to ever fly.

Fast or slow.

Ground hugging fast is awesome.

The power of the engines are incredible.

Yes, it is a sexy plane.

Not a blackbird, but man can it carry the payload under the radar and on target.

And the guys who fly them are tops.

Aloha, Hawaii...((HUGS))...has your storm passed?

We had another seriously sunny and melting day. Roads are awash. Driving was a tad dangerous this morning...as wet as it is now, the morning is going to be tricky again.

Aloha Night Owl! ((HUGS))

We're being told that the storm, which wasn't really a storm, has passed but what do the weathermen know? It's chilly and wet outside.

Hope all those wet roads don't freeze on you tonight.

Good morning, Kathy!

*HUGS*

Sorry I couldn't make it into the Canteen last night. As it turns out, I overslept the alarm by a whole hour this morning. Guess I really did need that rest!

Hope you're having a restful sleep this morning - will talk to you later in the day.
