As they say in the business, the optics of this are all wrong.
The Smoking Gun:
The mother of Trayvon Martin has filed two applications to secure trademarks containing her late son's name, records show.
Sybrina Fulton is seeking marks for the phrases "I Am Trayvon" and "Justice for Trayvon," according to filings made last week with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In both instances, Fulton, 46, is seeking the trademarks for use on "Digital materials, namely, CDs and DVDs featuring Trayvon Martin," and other products.
The March 21 USPTO applications, each of which cost $325, were filed by an Orlando, Florida law firm representing Fulton, whose first name is spelled "Sabrina" in the trademark records.
Is this a grieving mother trying to protect the good name of her dead child by preventing hucksters and quick buck artists from capitalizing on the tragedy?
Or is this a conniving woman trying to make a buck off the murder of her kid?

If she truly loved her son, I do not understand her.
If my son had recently been killed, whatever the circumstances, ‘trademarking’ his name would be the absolute last thing on my mind.

Why should Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Barack Obama and the Democrat Political Party be the only ones that benefit from this young mans death? Why shouldn’t his family if these others can??
I am trying to imagine... under ANY circumstances that one of my kids died.. if I would try to make money off of them? Nope. Can’t think of one. This certainly illustrates the type of family this teen came from. IMHO.
Previous accounts indicate Trayvon was walking to the house of his father’s ‘girlfriend’.
So was it his mother or the girlfriend who copyrighted the phrases?
I don’t recall hearing much of the father.
Next it will be tickets to the funeral. And a piece of the refreshment vendor action.

I saw an interview with the mother and father and another woman sitting next to the father so imagine it was his girlfriend.
Love has little to do with this; parading the corpse for political gain and profit has everything to do with this follow-on chain of events. The mother has taken the lesson of MLK’s professional widow and that is that there are bucks to be made in the death of a “loved” one.
You know she was prompted by attorneys to secure a trademark. Levin was going over this last nite; it may be the only way the attorneys will be paid.
Carrying the reasoning further; now they’ll keep the sh*t stirred up in order to sell more and more merchandise, make more and more money, so they can stir up more and more sh*t.
According to Yahoo news (and I’m not saying that this is 100% correct) but Sybrina Fulton (Mother of Trayvon Martin) has brought copyright claims. Sounds like the Mother and her extended family from the article(s) I’ve read.
I am sure they will have paid interviews coming as well. You are right... as long as this case stays UP FRONT in the news then the money will keep flowing.

Good question. Another is why the young, clean-cut looking 'baskaball' picture was used in the media coverage while an obviously later picture shows him with gold teeth and a much tougher looking persona.
Also, was he like 6 foot six and 240 lbs while Zimmerman was 5 foot eight and 135 lbs
