The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office is getting an "indefinite delivery" of an "indefinite quantity" of .40 caliber bullets from defense contractor ATK.

U.S. agents will receive a maximum of 450 million rounds over five years, according to a press release on the deal.

The high performance HST bullets are designed for law enforcement and ATK says they offer "optimum penetration for terminal performance."

This refers to the the bullet's hollow-point tip that passes through barriers without getting warped out of shape.

We've also learned that the Department has an open bid for a stockpile of rifle ammo.

Will they charge each American family for the bullet?

I have seen this before but that still strikes me as an unusually large amount of ammo for a civilian agency.

850,000 law enforcement people in USA with a weapon
@450 million bullets
= ~50 rounds per officer

From the article:

“..they’re looking for up to 175 million rounds of .233 caliber ammo to be exact.”

Wondering if this for CW2? Didn’t the IRS also place a VERY LARGE order recently?

There’s something in the air and I don’t like it....at all.

Wasn’t this story pretty much debunked a week or so ago??

Something about this was not a *purchase*, but rather a contract locking in a price for up to 450mm rounds over the next several years??

Just askin’....

The last estimate I heard was that there are approx. 175,000,000 gun owners in America and 275,000,000 guns in the hands of the citizens.

Just sayin’

No, no, no!

These bullets are to be delivered next spring to all unnamed FEMA camps via unmarked black helicopters.

Also of note, Apple recently received an order from the federal government for 200 million iPods with the unusual feature of having the capability to play music BACKWARD!

Every time I see a comment about “black helicopters” it makes me smile.

I have actually seen a bunch of unmarked black helicopters. I was visiting my parents who lived near the edge of the Eglin AFB reservation.

They came very quickly just above tree top level. I suspect it had something to do with Eglin but who knows? I do know that is lower than the military is supposed to fly in civilian areas.

I did report it to the sheriff’s office. I think they were amused but at least didn’t act that way on the phone.

I’m sorry but I will need to have more information than that from the article you posted. In it the writer said that hollow point ammunition is for better penetration. Nothing is further from the truth. Hollow point bullets are designed to begin expanding and spreading upon imapct with soft tissue. Full metal jackets aid better penetration through hard objects. If they can’t get this information right why would I believe they get the rest right?

I bet they could save lots of taxpayers dollars if they bought old bullets.
