The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office is getting an "indefinite delivery" of an "indefinite quantity" of .40 caliber bullets from defense contractor ATK.

U.S. agents will receive a maximum of 450 million rounds over five years, according to a press release on the deal.

This has been gone over before in another thread. In a nutshell this is nothing more than alarmist BS. DHS includes everyone from ICE to the Coast Guard. Millions of rounds are consumed yearly just qualifying.

The key to this type of contract is to identify the minimum qty in the initial ‘seed’ task order, then how much per year and option year.

At the Agency level, this isn’t absurd.

It might be significant if small businesses are not allowed to compete for the total volume being purchased. There are also FAR clauses to discourage monopolies, so there should be more than one provider of ammunition to the Agency.

It's also scary that TSA types are NOT police officers - they have NO concept of the law. Limited training... They're the equivalent of security guards at Walmart. Maybe not that good. How easy would it be for Homeland Security to get people like that to DO illegal things to citizens... with guns and live ammunition...

I got plenty of .308 and .45 Auto. I really don’t care if the government wants .40 for their pistols. As long as I have 10,000 rounds in excess, it doesn’t matter. Probably if the SHTF I’m going to be using less than twenty rounds before its all over anyway.

If Homeland was intending to go to war with the American people, they’d need more bullets than that. I’m guessing that many Americans have a few hundred rounds themselves, probably a few billion rounds would be spread across the country.

It’s likely the government agency wanted an assured supply of ammo.
