Skip to comments.DOJ on New Black Panther Party Zimmerman bounty - No comment

The U.S. Department of Justice had no comment on the $10,000 bounty the New Black Panther Party (NBPP) was offering for a "citizen's arrest" of George Zimmerman, the 28 year old man who told Sanford, Florida Police he shot and killed 17 year old Trayvon Martin on February 26 in an act of self-defense.
According to a number of reports, the NBPP "called for the mobilization of 10,000 black men" to do the "arrest." Zimmerman and his family have received death threats since the case became a national issue. Mr. Zimmerman has not been arrested by local authorities. Federal, state, and local investigations of the shooting are happening, and he is currently in hiding.
The bounty made its ways around social media, including Twitter, and attached itself to an unfortunate tweet. One individual decided to tweet what he thought was George Zimmerman's home address. Film director Spike Lee re-tweeted the incorrect address out to his 250,000 followers. I discovered the address did not belong to Mr. Zimmerman and the actual residents were living in fear for their lives. Mr. Lee has since apologized and compensated the couple whose residence was targeted on Twitter.
In an e-mail response to an inquiry, DOJ Office of Public Affairs' Xochitl Hinojosa wrote: "The FBI is aware of the statements and we are unable to comment at this time."
Rep. Allen West, Florida Republican, posted a statement on his FaceBook page calling on the Justice Department to prosecute the NBPP for the bounty:
It appears authorities on multiple levels are focusing more on the shooting than the NBPP bounty at this point, though.

Silence gives consent.
I want these guys to show up at MY polling place - I’ll kneecap the SOBs!
Add Conspiracy to kill US Citizens to Obama’s gun running.
Maybe someone should point out to Holder that this is conspiracy to commit kidnapping?
Or at the minimum kidnapping for hire.
No intimidation or persecution going on here. Just concerned citizens trying to help out local law enforcement....
If the DOJ will do nothing, how about the Florida National
Guard being called up by the governor to proceed against the NBPP? What they are advocating is clearly against at least parts of Florida statutes. Inciting kidnapping or possibly lynching is still illegal, just as surely as a privately contracted kidnapping or murder for hire.
Translation: For yall non southerners.
The honky can fend for himself he done shown dat he is 100% capable.
We are more interested in finding some charge for the MF.
And stop showing those photos of the boys on their way to a soft ball tournament.
Any more complaints call our boss ZERO. That's Mr ZERO to yall honkies.
And in the face of this kind of garbage, we have people here who would rather stay home than try to unseat the racist Marxist in the White House.
Makes no sense to me.
Imagine if the Tea Party had put a bounty out for someone...
Someone needs to put a bounty on the members of the NBPP. Let them see how it feels to look over their shoulder. I imagine most of them have had brushes with the law.
You are making the questionable assumption that any elected officials from either party have a spine. Where are the Florida officials on this? They are all afraid of the blacks in the inner cities.
so getting a few thousand citizens together to hunt down someone we don’t like is now ok?
i’m sure there are a few hundred thousand white parents that would like to deliver some ‘street justice’ after all this time...
Yeah, but that's the white man's law.
Holder told us the deal in the last panther flap.
“I will not prosecute my people”
Federal law against felons (Panther Jackson) possessing firearms?
Dead or alive bounty solicitating kidnap/murder?
"Maybe someone should point out to Holder that this is conspiracy to commit kidnapping?
Or at the minimum kidnapping for hire.
Yep. And don't forget about that, "Zimmerman: Wanted Dead or Alive" NBPP poster.
Only $10,000? That’s very niggardly of them.
No comment ,because New Black Panthers are a Department of the DOJ and they never comment on a Department while they have an operation on going
solicitating = soliciting
I see liberals trying to compare this to bounty hunters.
The only problem is that no bounty hunter would ever take it upon himself to arrest a man who has no warrant for his arrest. This is an open, terrorist call for kidnapping.
After all, what are they going to do if they “arrest” him only to watch police turn him loose?
“You are making the questionable assumption that any elected officials from either party have a spine. “
True. There aren’t many politicians of either stripe that are worth anything.
I know what we have with the Marxist, and I know he’s all for racial conflict. So, I’m going with door #2.
Suborning a felony, iirc.
They will never prosecute the Sons of Obama! It’s not going to happen! This administration is an absolute disgrace!!
An apt description of Mitt. Shows just how little enthusiasm there is for the man.
"I vehemently condemn the bounty poster emanating from the New Black Panther Party putting a $10,000 ransom up for the capture of George Zimmerman and call upon the US Department of Justice to prosecute their actions, clearly a hate crime. We have seen this type of abhorrent behavior from this group previously in 2008 as part of a voter intimidation action, it is reprehensible. To openly solicit for the death of an American citizen, with reward, is not in keeping with the laws of due process which governs this Constitutional Republic. However, this is to be expected when irrational voices dominate our public dialogue and are fueled by an ideological driven media. I am concerned that that the tragic death of Trayvon Martin is being hijacked by malcontents."
Those "malcontents" Congressman, are your buddies in the Congressional Black Caucus.
You are a fraud.
“An apt description of Mitt. Shows just how little enthusiasm there is for the man.”
It is. And I’m not here to tell you he’s going to be good. But I am enthusiastic to get rid of that infection known as Obama.

And even if Zimmerman did provoke the fight and/or use excessive force in defending himself, for the DOJ to allow his parents- who had nothing to do with the events that night- to writhe in sheer terror like this is beyond appalling.
I’m considering greeting Eric Holder when he gives his speech at UofM.
You’re on a roll.

I have to disagree. I think Rep. Allen West joined with the best intentions- to try to change the CBC from the inside. It's an extremely uphill battle, obviously, and to say that they are his "buddies" is a stretch, IMHO.
I'll contribute to a Bounty Fund.........
Spike Lee should be arrested for posting a private citizen’s address, even if it were the correct address. The intent was clearly to incite violence.
Put a bounty on them, and see how quickly that changes.
KKK offers bounty on black man.....all would be imprisoned by tonight!
Works for me; however if that person is white. . . . . They will get awful skinny. How?
Sitting in jail eating beans. . . . . . .
Where does Holder live? It’s about time for a massive protest outside of that guy’s home.
Is he better than 99% of the other Congress Critters?
But in this case, my wise old granny used to remind me that "You are judged by the company you keep".
Pigford and the CBC make me suspicious that the color of his skin is far more important to him than it is to me.
What would George Washington have done?
If Dead or Alive bounties are no big deal perhaps it’s time to put one up for whoever started Fast and Furious.
I get your point but some people characterize statements like that as "making excuses for him."
I would literally, look down and laugh at that little bp punk if he was at my polling place.
I’d stand there and welcome white people too.
Not that I think it accomplished anymore than spitting in the wind, but I called my senator and rep to ask if either one has the “courage”, if it can be called that, to say something denouncing what amounts to a hit on a citizen. I noted that if it had been, say, the Tea Party which pulled such a stunt, the denunciations would be loud and long from both sides. I pointed out that the so-called DoJ obviously has no intention of protecting this man or prosecuting the gangster thugs who put the hit out. If US representatives are afraid to speak out about this, they are no better than members of governments who are afraid of, say, the drug cartels running a country. I know it’s not really their line of work, but as I said, they would be at the mics with the rest of the braying herd if the Tea Party had done such an outrageous thing, and we have a corrupted DoJ now.
