Prosecutors have dropped charges against an 80-year-old tavern owner who shot a home burglar last week. "I feel great, but I still don't appreciate them taking my weapon," he said.
If a convict, he may not be able to legally own a gun. However, his wife can.

He has a felony conviction. In Illinois he cannot legally own a gun. He cannot legally own ammunition. To do either you must have a FOID - Firearm Owner Identification Card - felons cannot get them.
So we have a black felon business owner living in the violently dangerous Englewood neighborhood in Chicago. I was there just last Thursday. You don’t want to be there at night. The IL AG is Lisa Madigan. Lisa is the daughter of Michael Madigan the Speaker of the House and the most powerful Democrat and for that matter politician in Illinois.
Here’s the precedent that they’ve just set: Black felon business owners may own/shoot criminals.
How much longer until we get concealed carry or even Constitutional carry in Illinois?
Will white felon business owners be held to the same standards?
Do you still need an FOID in Illinois to possess a gun and/or ammunition?
I’m sorry but this gun is guilty of a heinous crime.
But the 80-year-old tavern owner in Englewood is upset they did not return the .38-caliber pistol he used to shoot the intruder in the leg.
"I still don't appreciate them taking my weapon because I need one," Wright said. "You, me or anybody else should be able to have some kind of protection. You have to be able to take care of yourself."
Wright said he has been "left to the wolves" and will use his baseball bat for protection -- for now. He said he will not go searching for another gun, but will buy one if he gets the chance.
Wright was charged with unlawful use of a weapon because he had been convicted in the past of weapons charges and is not allowed to own a gun. Prosecutors defended the charge, but announced in court early this morning that they were dismissing it. They gave no explanation.
Keep in mind this guy is a felon and cannot own a gun. He's on record stating that he'll buy one "if he gets the chance.
Just curious, what is your source for this guy being a felon?

I suggested his wife get guns. Nothing I have heard indicates she can’t get a shotgun.

The article says “Wright was charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon after police discovered he had two prior weapons convictions from 1968 and 1994, officials said.”
The “weapons convictions” are not specified as being felonies, and therefore it is improper to assert that the man has a felony conviction; these convictions were the basis of charging him with a felony.
I have additional knowledge not contained in the article. Mr. Wright is a twice convicted felon. His gun possession carries a local, county, state and federal penalty. None of which are being enforced.
The federal punishment for felon gun possession is up to 10 years in prison. Mr. Wright is being given a free pass. Is it racial, political or has reality finally settled into Illinois?
Don’t pick the last option. The entire state is surreal.

The first one might have been just before the Act, but the second is well after it and just 18 years ago. This is a "landmark case" in Illinois. Why isn't he being prosecuted/going to prison under either local (Chicago), County (Cook), State (IL) or Federal Gun Control Laws, all of which he's in violation of?

My guess is that the first conviction was PRIOR to the `68 GCA and that the man can invalidate the entire GCA by citing the Constitutional prohibitions on Ex Post Facto laws. (That in itself would DRASTICALLY alter the power that the buarchy weilds and cause a legal landslide.)
