If he would have gotten out and not split the vote earlier on after South Carolina, it would have been a two man race.

You don't have on shred of evidence to prove that and you know it. Newt was the vote splitter after he imploded in FL. Just look at the election results.

Rick Green, Newt Purple, Milt Orange, Paul Yellow.

Not a whole lot of purple nationwide, is there? Newt split the vote by running in 90% of these races and coming in 3rd or 4th keeping Rick a point or two shy of winning against Romney. Now he is jumping on the Romney bandwagon after he squandered all of his Adelson money. Someone who is also comfortable with Romney.

I’m probably still with you. I wish Santorum would win today in WI, but I think the ABO vote is kicking in. He clearly had it for a time in places like CO, but the establishment and some of Rick’s willingness to answer stupid questions blew him up. Romney will be a lousy candidate, but the Supreme Court may help him a lot by taking Obamacare off the radar. If the Republican do get control of 2 branches of government, I fully expect them to do nothing to really change anything beyond working around the edges again. Maybe we’ll get incandescent bulbs back!

Voter turn out is EVERYTHING!

I was reading that Obama won the General Election by something like 7 million votes, and there were around 16 million Evangelicals, who were eligible to vote, but did NOT.

Don’t know if I have the numbers exactly right, but it’s pretty close to that amount.

VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!

Since I can’t make purple the color of the day here in WI, please make it GREEN with Santorum.

It’s a sad day when we have to settle like this. Is this the best the GOP can put up? We see here in WI with the terrific Gov. Scott Walker doing a fabulous job elected in 2010 and performed as a true conservative - he has been recalled by the likes of the smarmy lefty bunch with the help of the Obama White House team / union nation thugs and it ain’t over till it’s over in June. We hear rumors that the national union thugs will spend at least $40 million dollars to try to wipe out our Governor who’s Act 10 reforms have saved millions in WI, just as he promised. THAT’s how a conservative victor is treated by the scummy lefties.

So please, please folks - this is our generation’s duty to save this great Republic from ruin. Let’s do it - get out and vote.

Mornin' to ya, TROLL.
I hate it when newbies post articles and I hate it when newbies try to browbeat long-time FReepers.

I just think it shows poor taste, bad breeding and a fundamental lack of common sense.

I got behind Newt as did many others until he fell flat on his face.
It's true. He really did.

In the first pre-Florida debate he looked very, very bad. And this was the guy who was supposed to be the Debate King.

I didn't watch the second pre-Florida debate, but I heard he wasn't much better then either.

For a guy whose whole argument (at the time, anyway) was "I can debate Obama" to flub up the way he did... well, you know, I really do like Gingrich, like him a lot, like him better than I like Santorum, that's for sure... but I have to call it the way I see it and the way I see it is you are right, Kenny. You are right.

Gingrich fell flat on his face.

After Perry dropped out, I, too, was for Newt. Then he imploded during the Florida debates, and I saw the handwriting on the wall. I then supported Santorum. Newt did fall flat on his face, and I think his big ole ego did him in.

OMG, Guenie.

What a wonderful post. I’ve been equally disappointed and shocked at the vitriolic posts of some Freepers who don’t know one blessed thing about Rick Santorum or his family.
These shallow, small minded Freepers hide behind a screen name and spew their hate filled rhetoric only because they are anonymous
Face to face, they would fold like cheap tents..bullies all, no substance behind the message.

I met 13 members of the Duggar family last night, G.
They are here from Arkansas to campaign for Rick...They ride around in a huge bus with RICK SANTORUM FOR PRESIDENT written on the side.
What a special family!

All of Ricks’ supporters are the same; Conservative, caring, principled, value centered, people of deep faith and core convictions.

I am proud to be on the team. Jim Bob Duggar told me last night that if Rick doesn’t win the nomination, it’s because he is too good for our nation. I agree.

When casting their vote in the primaries, voters need to know what Rick Santorum stated when he was on Fox News Sunday: A Republican hasn’t won an election, against a Democrat incumbent in 120 YEARS, EXCEPT FOR RONALD REAGAN, A CONSERVATIVE.

Vote for the viable CONSERVATIVE - Rick Santorum!

Guenevere is right.

We have too much bashing going on between Santorum and Gingrich supporters.

If you live in Washington, D.C., vote for Gingrich. I know I would. Maybe a miracle will happen and he'll win a race that Romney isn't paying attention to winning, and shock the “inevitability” out of Romney.

If you live in Wisconsin, the best way to stop Romney is probably to vote for Santorum. If you believe you can't do that, I'll respect your conscience. However, Wisconsin is likely to have a major effect on the next few states, and if Romney wins decisively it will cause major problems down the road, and may make it difficult for Santorum or Gingrich to be viable candidates down the road in more conservative states like Pennsylvania and Texas.

In Maryland it probably doesn't make a difference which candidate you vote for since Romney is likely to win no matter what.

Can't we all agree on Free Republic that we need to defeat Romney if we want to have the best chance of defeating Obama? Those need to be our short-term and long-term goals.

Since Wisconsin is an open primary, I would not be surprised at all to see a Santorum win. Doesn’t he get a lot of Democrat crossover votes?

PS: As a Newt supporter, thank you for encouraging Santorum supporters in DC to vote for Newt. Very classy of you!

Actually and seriously, I believe most cross over votes have been evenly split between Romney and the others.

There are some Dems that are socially conservative....they are dems because of family tradition. I could see some of them voting for Santorum. However, I doubt it will be a significant amount to make a difference. Also, most Dems that would vote for Santorum in a primary, would also vote for him in a general election. The Romney crossovers will not...they are attempting to wreck any chance of a conservative GOP nominee.

Thank you for your thanks.

I strongly believe that Santorum and Gingrich are on the same team, and when one has a chance of winning a particular state and the other does not, the goal needs to be to deny Romney a win by backing the candidate with the best chance. Sometimes that's Santorum, sometimes it's Gingrich.

I fear Romney is on the wrong team entirely based on past history of flip-flopping.

Note: Even if you add Newt and Santorum’s votes together in FL and NV, Romney still would have beat Gingrich. The same cannot be said for many of Santorum’s close losses.

I was behind Gingrich from SC through the Santorum Trifecta. The Trifecta showed the race had come down to Santorum and Romney. Ever since then, Gingrich has only stood in the way of Santorum’s momentum, gobbling up just enough votes in key states to cause Santorum to lose.

Super Tuesday would have been 6-4 Santorum without Gingrich in the race, and 4 or 5 of those Santorum wins would have been blowouts, and Romney’s wins insignificant blips on the radar (ID, MA, VA, VT). This whole race would have been different with a united conservative front in the races after the Trifecta. Instead of Santorum trying desperately for a “comeback kid” moment in WI, MD would be the battleground tonight with Romney on his heels.
