GE Places Asterisk on Record Chevy Volt Sales
The Street ^ | April 3, 2012 | By Eric Rosenbaum

Don't get too excited about the record sales number just posted by General Motors Chevy Volt in March, as the sales charge for the electric car may have been brought to life by a big corporate buyer.

The Volt rebound - a month after GM temporarily shuttered production of the car - needs to be set against the likely influence played by GE in driving up the Volt sales number.

Volt sales in March of 2,289 were 50% higher than December 2011, which had been the vehicle's best month since launch.

It's no coincidence, though, that GE began last month purchasing Volts for its employees in what it called "the largest order in history" of cars for its employees.

GM does not break out the percentage of Volt sales from GE, making it difficult to gauge true consumer demand for the Volt at a time of excess supply.

Gordon Johnson, analyst at Axiom Capital, wrote on Monday, "Volt sales are currently benefiting from a one-time near-term boost, born out of General Electric's decision...a benefit GM began to see in Feb. 2012, which is now impacting March 2012." GE has committed to purchasing 12,000 Volts.

Hopefully, GE already has its own fire department.

I going to guess at least 50% of the sales are from GE based on previous Volt sales before GE started buying them.

LOL. So the genuine sales numbers for the Dolt are even worse than the pathetic level GM is peddling. That’s great.

So let me see if I got this right, GE didn’t pay a penny in Fed tax last year. Now they are licking Bambi’s rear by buying 12,000 Dolts to the tune of $9,000,000 in taxpayer funded rebates.

Disgusting

I have an old 2008 NATIONAL WILDLIFE magazine with an interview with Obama. In it he says he hopes to have ONE MILLION plug in hybrids getting 150 mpg on the road by 2015.

And he wants 2 BILLION GALLONS of “celulosic” biofuels on the market by 2013.

Is he on schedule?

...ANOTHER ARTICLE...

The memo, sent to employees of GE Healthcare Americas team explains that all sedan, crossover, and minivan purchases in 2012 will be replaced by the Chevy Volt. Only field engineers are exempt from having to drive a company Volt.

GE will offer estimates for installation Level 2 Charging Stations, though all-gas use will be allowed when there is no electric option. Any employees who opt out of the Volt program will not be compensated for their expenses. Those who do choose to drive the Volt will be reimbursed for public charging and home charging costs, in addition to gas uses.

Hopefully, GE already has its own fire department.

They're bringing Jack Welch out of retirement, so he can urinate on them.

The story has been updated.

It now says that only 5% of the record sales were fleet purchases, and GE did not have any influence on the numbers.

What a great opportunity to buy a volt at half price.
Wait

That isn't a deal, is it.

...never mind...
