Is Obama 'Dangerously Close To Totalitarianism'?
IBD editorials ^ | April 7, 2012

Power: Given the president's end-runs around Congress, his shredding of the Constitution and his assault on the authority of the courts, a second term free of electoral restraints may be a frightening prospect.

Judge Andrew Napolitano, a Fox News commentator, raised the question on Neil Cavuto's "Your World" show Wednesday. And while it seems fanciful in light of the safeguards built into our democracy and its institutions, it recognizes the threat posed by the president's policies and actions if left unchecked.

"I think the president is dangerously close to totalitarianism," Napolitano opined. "A few months ago he was saying, 'The Congress doesn't count, the Congress doesn't mean anything, I am going to rule by decree and by administrative regulation.'

"Now he's basically saying the Supreme Court doesn't count. It doesn't matter what they think. They can't review our legislation. That would leave just him as the only branch of government standing."

Some would consider this borderline hyperbole. But this is, after all, a president who has said he can't wait for Congress to act and will govern by executive order and regulations if necessary. He has questioned the Supreme Court's "unprecedented" review of ObamaCare.

As the Department of Justice turned in its homework assignment on the judicial review of the constitutionality of laws, it was a reminder that this is an administration that's already been found in contempt of court by a federal judge.

In February of last year, Louisiana Federal District Court Judge Martin Feldman found that the Obama Interior Department was in contempt of his ruling that the offshore oil drilling moratorium, imposed by the administration in 2010, was unconstitutional. After Feldman struck down the initial drilling ban, the Interior Department simply established a second ban that was virtually identical.

” It is an election year. He is telling voters that he stands with them against the ‘conservative’ congress and the ‘conservative’ court’(and oil companies and the rich....). The only question is what side voters will choose.”

And the silence by GOP Congress makes Obama’s points for him. I think they want to lose, just like McCain.

>>>He is merely an apostle of the formlessness that is now our lot in life. He does not have the ability to be a tyrant. The truly sad event was his election by a population whose main values have become: eating, drinking, drugging, copulating, evacuating the bowels, snoring and “The Games!” That is why the clown is in office.<<<

I agree with you in this regard: he doesn’t have what it takes to be a dictator. He aspires to power, certainly. My real concern is what comes after him.

Good post. Politicians lives are a strange mix of caring and not caring that's hard for outsiders to chart. That's what I picked up from watching the last few presidents.

What I mean is, at one point, a politician may do anything to win, to reshape the entire country. At another time, he or she may kick back, play golf, and just let the days pass until the pension comes.

There are spurts of energy and bursts of activity, but real, devoted fanaticism is harder to find. There are too many perks and privileges. It's hard to get things done and easy to just go with the flow.

So there may be moments of real action and danger, but over the course of an administration the tendency is to inactivity and malaise.

Yup. The long march of Gramsci's insidious cultural marxism is just about complete.

... Double-thinking ‘fence-sitters', otherwise known as moderates, centrists, and RINOs bear the imprint of these psychological ‘obedience' techniques. These people-in some cases literally afraid of incurring the wrath of name-calling obedience trainers--- have opted to straddle the fence lest they be found guilty of possessing an opinion, one way or another. At the merest hint of displeasure from the obedience-trainers, up goes the yellow flag of surrender upon which it is boldly written:

"I believe in nothing and am tolerant of everything!"

Hitler’s atrocities were all made possible by the Enabling Act of 1933, where the Reichstag allowed Hitler to make laws - even unconstitutional laws - without any input from the Reichstag. The Reichstag voluntarily gave up its check on Hitler. ...

We don't need an Enabling Act. There already are EO's, and the executive branch's alphabet soup of regulatory agencies [EPA, FDA, Dept of Energy, Dept of Education, etc]. Congress has been completely unwilling to use it's 'power of the purse' and defund them.

Congress needs to realize that it is their JOB to obstruct somebody who is making an unconstitutional power grab. Their obstruction of tyranny is the only protection we the people have. By giving up that necessary role - however they do it - they are leaving we the people and our form of government defenseless.

If the Congress-critters had been taking their role as a check and balance seriously we would never have ended up with somebody like Eric Holder as the top cop, able to obstruct all federal law enforcement.

We would never have ended up with SCOTUS justice Elena Kagan - a person who pressured a physicians’ group to alter 180-degrees its testimony in the Stenberg v Carhart court case and who has since refused to recuse herself from a case where her position as SCOTUS justice was at issue and a case where she had actually developed the arguments for the defendants.

These Congress-critters who think their job is to just get along and be civil seem totally unprepared to battle for the existence of this country. It’s like they’ve inflicted upon themselves ROE’s that only allow them to watch while the enemy comes in and shoots us all.

Another thread..

Lugar, age 80, and Hatch, age 78

These people don’t live like most Americans. They are treated like royalty in D.C., especially if they are RINOS.
They eat Prime fillet and Maine lobster, take first class junkets, and go to the finest parties. They have Rolls Royce healthcare, huge perks, and numerous other entitlements. Is it any wonder that despite all of the atrocities Obama has committed, nary a peep out of the House or Senate? These people are so far removed from reality, that it is laughable.

out of fear of being labeled racist.
***********************************************************

It is past being called a racist. It is fear of being dead. There are a lot, one million plus, communist/socialist zombies ( zombies meaning those who think communism/socialism is a viable form of government IE not very swift) like the czars that Obama has surrounded himself with, who will kill to further “the” agenda.

Throughout history when the citizens of a nation find that they can not and will not be accorded either justice or redress from those, Judges, bureaucrats, or politicians, tasked with administering justice and or redress, the citizens find they must correct these miscreants, quite often violently, by hanging, guillotine, or simply shooting.

From watching what is happening in our nation, a correct observation would be that judges, bureaucrats, and politicians, have failed to study or acquire any knowledge of such history.

RE :”And the silence by GOP Congress makes Obama’s points for him. I think they want to lose, just like McCain.

A number of weeks ago on The Morning Joe during the Politico segment they said that Boehner went to conservative House members and told them they had to pass a jobs bill that Obama will sign to protect others that are not in safe districts for the election. And last week Obama signed that bill. This COULD be a good political strategy for Republicans if the economy gets worse BEFORE the election. Otherwise it helps Obama.

And then comes Ryan with a revamped Ryan Plan two. I admit I believed we wouldn't hear of this again before the election.

I think the reason why Ryan comes out with this again now is to prompt Obama to attack it, which he did, to distract attention away from conservatives that they are working with Obama to get bills in law.

It's the standard procedure. Yes, Ryan is a part of the establishment, Look who he just endorsed. It is the way it is.

What a moronic article!

"Is Obama 'Dangerously Close To Totalitarianism'?

What about "inside" or "within" or "well into" or, better yet:
Is Was Obama 'Dangerously Close To Totalitarianism' while the klintoons were in the WH? We all were then....But most didn't care.

Where have these HUTA imbeciles been for the past 18-years?

On the bright side, if Ronald Reagan was to re-issue his prophecy now he could only worry about only 994 years of darkest tyranny.
