The Washington Times ^ | April 7, 2012 | Deborah Simmons

“The gun.”

Trayvon was killed Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla., by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who told police that a “confrontation” with the unarmed 17-year-old led him to shoot in self-defense.

......

Mr. Cosby, a Navy veteran, said “the gun” empowered Mr. Zimmerman, whose actions have stirred a firestorm of debate, protests and remarks from President Obama.

......

“We’ve got to get the gun out of the hands of people who are supposed to be on neighborhood watch,” said Mr. Cosby, whose remarks were the first he has made publicly about the case.

“There must be a “bad gun” gene that is causing all the problems. We need a government funded study to try and discover this “bad gun” gene and start testing all guns manufactured to eliminate all those bad guns before they are sold to an unsuspecting public.”
No problem, the government already sent those bad guns to Mexico.................we are now safe..............

“The gun.”

No, Bill. Not the gun. The cell phones.

You see, both Martin and Zimmerman were on cell phones. And both of them said, on their cell phones, that they'd lost each other.

That's the key point here.

Because Martin ran away - and Zimmerman walked back to his car.

So Martin knew where Zimmerman was, but Zimmerman did not know where Martin was.

Therefore, Martin attacked Zimmerman.

The cell phones, Bill - the cell phones.

The Gun.

The Knife.

The Baseball Bat.

The Tire Iron.

The President.

Didn’t Cosby’s name come up some years ago as one of the few people who had a concealed carry permit from New York City? If so, then I guess Cosby was just out to murder somebody. I wonder who it was?

disagree.

I believe trayvon had the legal right to self defense, and zimmerman did likewise.

Trayvon assumed he was being followed by zimmerman so he could of reacted in self defense.
Zimmerman had trayvon attacking him without understanding why, hence he also had self-defense..

Sorry, you can not “defend” yourself because you “think” someone is following you.

The person who initiates violence in such a situation is the perpetrator. The person being attacked is the one with the right to defend.

Trayvon attacked Zimmerman. You cannot legally do that because you think he is following you...only if he physically tries to attack or detain you. Zimmerman did neither.

No, but that nonsense was one of the reasons we were delighted to move to the boonies ASASP-I can carry my pistol if I want to when I hike in the woods, walk down the road after dark, etc, and no one tries to tell me not to- even though there are only 6 families on this road, it is a pretty remote area.

You’re welcome, and whether it does or not, if the rules are the same there as they are in SA, you can bet one of the attorneys representing either Zimmerman or Martin’s parents are going to bring it up, which is why I mentioned it.

"Trayvon (legally since he was probably scare he was being followed) went after Zimmerman"

So Martin goes from "probably scare [sic]" to "went after Zimmerman"?

How does that work "legally"? Just because you're being followed, you can "go after someone"?

Martin could have physically run circles around Zimmerman, if he was so "scared", why didn't he run home?

Well, you simply appear to be misinformed.

The rules which Zimmerman undertook Neighborhood Watch patrols under have no bearing on this incident.

He was NOT on patrol that night, he was going to run an errand, saw someone he did not recognize, and responded.

There are no rules that say a NW patrolman may not be armed when not on patrol.

You too Bill?

You believe George Zimmerman should have been beaten to death instead of defending himself?

All victims have an obligation to succumb to violence rather than defend themselves...
...is THAT the message?

I have been legally carrying for years, as did my husband-I’m well aware of the rules in Texas, not Florida-I don’t live there.

I did not say they did spply-if he was on a personal errand that is a given. However, with all the talk from the driveby media that I’m sure some people in Florida listen to about NW, I’m guessing someone will bring it up in court for whatever reason, relevant or not, if only to annoy the opposing lawyer(s).
