Obama team slams Romney for not paying "fair share" of taxes
CNBC ^ | April 10, 2012

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's campaign team attacked his likely Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, on Tuesday for not paying his "fair share" of taxes ahead of a speech by the president on why millionaires should bear a larger tax burden.

Obama's populist message is a clear swipe at Romney, the wealthy Republican front-runner likely to face him in the November 6 election, as the Democratic president seeks to appeal to blue-collar voters he will need to win a second term.

One of the richest men ever to seek the White House, Romney paid an effective tax rate of 13.9 percent in 2010 on more than $21 million in income. Obama's campaign is anxious to paint him as elitist and out of touch with ordinary Americans.

“We are all gonna be SOOOOOOOO sick of hearing the phrase “fair share” come November.”

Totally agree. It’s like all their other emotional and meaningless buzzwords and phrases. Just keep saying it until the sheeple absorb it:

* “war on women”
* “millionaires & billionaires”
* “right to choose” (the cousin of “safe, legal & rare”)
* “social justice”
* “extreme”

Don't worry, Obama will have Romney reminding the public that their recent $3.50 for a loaf of bread and $5.00 for a gallon of milk, is courtesy of Obama, making EVERYONE pay their “fair share”. And by November, gasoline will be selling for around $5 per gal.

It won't be hard for Romney to turn this around and he does have a well planned and financed campaign this time. Which is much different that what we were stuck with in 2008.

So the Democrats smear machine are already in a deep hole that they dug all by themselves.

Don’t forget economic justice as codified in the new Homeland Security manual. We are SO sliced and diced.

You are correct. The 13.9% “taxes” Romney paid IS NOT his entire tax contribution-—it just looks good for “headlines!” Romney paid A LOT higher rate on his taxes, each year. (The news media ALWAYS “forgets” to count the tax rate the rich pay on capital gains!!! Which is what, another 30-35%? Then ADD THAT to the 13.9% and you have a tax rate not too far off from 50%.

Your choice isn’t elitist vs socialist. It is socialist that hates to work vs socialist that loves to work. I don’t know which is worse.

"when he released his income tax returns, Mr. Romney, a multimillionaire and presidential candidate, revealed that while he reported he made $42.5 million over the past two years, he also gave away $7 million"

"Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle gave $10,772 of the $1.2 million they earned from 2000 through 2004 to charities, or less than 1 percent, according to tax returns for those years"

Romney should slam Ubama and the Wookie for spending more than their fair share of taxpayer loot on personal vacations.

All the bedwetting handwringers in this thread, did you actually read the article? No.

"Republicans dismissed the speech as a political stunt and complain that increasing taxes on the wealthy would do nothing to create jobs or lower gasoline prices at the pump, which are the issues they say ordinary Americans care most about.

"This is yet another sign that they're out of ideas and simply focused on tax hike show-votes," said Mitch McConnell, the top Senate Republican.

"This is all the president has left to fix the economy - a plan to divide America with a tax that will raise one tenth of a percent of his spending spree," the Republican National Committee said in a statement."

It's a Tuesday (read: empty news day) process piece, it's fluff, it's nothing we haven't heard before from Axelrot. Why, in fact, it reads like a bare rewrite of press releases keyed on a morning appearance by some Bobo banana on a (as it turns out, sister) network. And lo and behold, who is buried at the very end of the article:

"We have a tax system that's rigged against the average person, rigged in favor of the very wealthy. We need to fix that, and this Buffett Rule will address that," Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program."

If the mere mention of "Morning Joe" isn't worth a chuckle, google 'Buffet Rule fact check' for a real laugh. Or resume bedwetting, whatever...

What's your source for this claim? "Romney pays a 14-15% tax rate, lower than many taxpayers." - http://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2012/01/24/romneys-tax-returns-are-remarkably-unremarkable/

Alright. But quite a bit of his info is sealed. Suffice to say that very little is known about him, where he came from, or who funds/ed him.

Right. And Obama had Rezko the Crook's help with his real estate purchase. And who paid Obama's college expenses? Enquiring minds want to know. We do know that he didn't bother paying his parking tickets until he decided to run. Seems like Obama doesn't pay for much of anything.

"Obama received 17 parking tickets in Cambridge between 1988 and 1991, according to the city's Traffic, Parking & Transportation Department. Of those tickets, he paid only two while he was a student and paid them late, said Susan Clippinger, the office's director".
