Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) says he's heard that almost half of all the Democrats in Congress are secretly part of the Communist Party.
He offered no names or proof of his accusation.
West told almost 100 Floridians in Palm City on Tuesday that "he's heard" as many as 80 Democrats in Congress are members of the Communist Party, according to the Palm Beach Post.
The freshman Republican, an outspoken conservative and Tea Party favorite, is a longtime critic of the Democratic Party.
At the same event, he charged that President Obama was "scared" to meet with him.
"I really wish that, standing here before you, was Allen West and President Obama," West said, according to the report. "We could have a simple discussion. But that ain't ever gonna happen."
West has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick for the 2012 Republican nominee. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley ( R) called him a "good" choice. Sarah Palin has also spoken highly of him.
West said on Friday that he would join the presidential ticket "if it was the right fit."
"The focus is, of course, being a good congressional representative,” West said in an interview with CNN. "But if someone were to make that call to me, which I really doubt is ever going to happen, you would have to make sure that it is something that God would ordain for you, and you’d have to talk to your wife, my wife and my two daughters about. But we have always stepped up to the plate to serve our country. And if it’s the right fit, then I will do so."
yeah, the other half are Socialists.

The only slight alteration I might add is: These Democrats will never claim to be communists, and “pshaw” and claim West is being provocative, but half (or more) of Democrats will indeed happily promote a Communist agenda.
He misspoke. That would be half the GOP (RINOs all).
Probably 99% of the DNC.
When Glenn Beck started his show on FOX he spoke of good democrats vs marxist democrats. When he ended the show some 2 years later he called the democrats a lost cause who had been completely overrun by the marxists.
The rest are still in the closet. There are a few “Rs” in there with them.
The MSM will now brand him as the new Joe McCarthy, and a lose cannon. I love the guy, its what this country needs, a “Leader”. Unfortunately we no longer recognize it as a required trait.
At least half of them may embrace Communist principles without even realizing that they believe the same things commies do. Nevertheless, there are some things one does not say in public, on the record, if one want to be vice-president. He may have just shot down his chances of getting the VP slot this trip.
You describe most rank and file ‘rat voters as well.
They’ll support communist policy all day long,
but also deny all day long that they or other rats are communists.
Wasn’t this also an issue in the 1990’s when the membership rolls were posted on line for the CP/USA and the Socialist
Workers Party then magically they were removed as they showed that most of the Democrat members of the House and Senate were in fact members of one or both organizations?
Commies, Socialists, who can tell the difference?
Communist is such an ugly word... Progressive is much nicer, don’t you think?
He didn’t misspeak. He was dead right.
He just didn’t elaborate on Republicans, half of which are Democrats, and the other half are moderates, with a smattering of libertarians in there for color.
It’s time to stop fearing the “McCarthy” card,
as we’ve started to stop fearing the “racist” card.
Call a commie a commie, and if they object, make them defend why supporting communist policies doesn’t make them a commie.

I have friends or acquaintances, I wonder if they are really communists, what is the attraction. These people have good jobs, live in nice houses. I just don’t understand

I’d like to say these guys have forgotten that Capitalism and individual autonomy are fundamental and crucial to American security, prosperity and our national character, but then that would be assuming they ever KNEW!
People who did not become Republicans until well after the era of Reagan? Was it GHWBush who convinced them to switch?
Or was the it Rats taking it on the chin in 1994 and then the embarrassment of the Party defending a rapist, sexual harasser, and perjurer who sold out technology to the ChiComs in exchange for illegal campaign donations?
The political “middle” has lurched Left even if the nation as a whole is ideologically to the right of the “new center” among politicians.
The cowardly Chicken Dees need to take BACK their own damn party from the Pelosis and Sheila Jackson Lees who embarrass them so.
