Gingrich Unloads on Fox News in Private Meeting
Real Politics ^ | 4-11-12 | Conroy

- During a meeting with 18 Delaware Tea Party leaders here on Wednesday, Newt Gingrich lambasted The Fox News Channel, accusing the cable news network that employed him as recently as last year of having been in the tank for Mitt Romney from the beginning of the Republican presidential fight and singling out former colleagues for attacking him out of what he characterized as personal jealousy.

“I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through,” Gingrich said during the private meeting at Wesley College to which RealClearPolitics was granted access. “In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of Fox. That’s just a fact.”

Gingrich’s contract as a Fox News contributor was terminated last spring, as he was gearing up for his White House run.

The former House Speaker’s blunt remarks about Fox came in response to a question from one of the Delaware Tea Party leaders about the manner in which his campaign has been treated by conservative media outlets.

Gingrich did not pull his punches in accusing Rupert Murdoch -- the chairman and CEO of the News Corporation, Fox News’ parent company -- of pushing for Romney behind the scenes.

“I assume it’s because Murdoch at some point said, ‘I want Romney,’ and so ‘fair and balanced’ became ‘Romney,’” Gingrich said. “And there’s no question that Fox had a lot to do with stopping my campaign because such a high percentage of our base watches Fox.”

Gingrich saved his most personal condemnation for George Will, a conservative columnist and frequent television commentator, who has been critical ...(read more)

Here is my letter to Fox News from January:

January 12, 2012

Gentlemen:

I have watched Fox News for many years. I recently have noticed a huge shift to being disingenuous, false and unreliable in your reporting. Obviously, you are for Romney. Many of your viewers know Rove is associated with a SUPERPAC which is being used by Romney against Gingrich called “Restore Our Future.” Yet he is brought onto Fox as an analyst who supposedly is neutral. Furthermore, your station quoted the nonpartisan tax center as being an authority in their criticism of Gingriches tax plan. Because I have been noticing your obvious bias in your reporting, I looked on the internet to investigate this center. Guess what? They are liberal and not worthy of Fox News to use as a credible source. Gingrich has sent out a legal notice to the media warning them not to show ads by Romney which falsely say he was fined in the 90’s. After Gingrich sent out this legal notice…..lo and behold….I saw Shepherd Smith yesterday LIE and say the Speaker was fined. I have heard chiding remarks by several people on Fox such as Brit Hume saying Gingrich has “road rage” and Ann Coulter on Redeye saying “Gingrich is crazy, you know.” For the sake of brevity, I am not listing all the instances I have seen here. I am astounded to see such bias, viciousness, unprofessionalism and downright false news reporting from a station I depended on to get my real news. The fact that I know your true agenda now makes me want to tune out more than tune in and I feel quite disappointed to learn that you cannot be relied upon for the truth. I have literally switched to CNN or MSNBC when I wanted to see a particular speech or event now that you will not show and I have not watched them since the 90’s. The way I look at it now …what is the difference between them and you when you quote liberal sources as legitimate? I guess it took this election to open my eyes to your station and now I know your news is not reliable. I will never quite view Fox again in the same way. Your credibility is in the toilet now and I cannot believe you think your viewers are that stupid. By the way, Stephen Moore with the WSJ has called for Newt to stand down and save his dignity. Well, with you people dragging him through the mud every day what does he have to lose if he stays in? Today I saw Fox show that old false ad that Newt warned media not to run or there will be legal ramifications. You showed the whole ad. I would think your station would abide by the law and have some ethics in your reporting but that will not happen when you are trying to push Romney across the finish line. Destroying a reputation for your own agenda shows me it is you who has no dignity. Why am I still watching your station? Well, I like to find out what you are up to so I can stay on top of it and let others know.

Sincerely,
A disappointed viewer

Right on, right on, right on. Newt speaks truth to power.

Fox has really been on his case since he made schooled lawyer Megyn Kelly on a legal question in one of the early Fox News debates. But it’s not just Fox.

Nearly the entire “conservative” press hates him more than even the larger lamestream media does, hence his comment that CNN isn’t as biased as Fox is. Hew right, as far as treatment of him and the other Romney opponents goes.

Along with Fox, National Review and the Washington Examiner have been hyping Romney and bashing Gingrich since day 1 of the campaign. All of the writers at American Spectator, with the exception of Jeffrey Lord and Aaron Goldstein, have also been attacking Newt all during the primary season. Add Michelle Malkin and Hot Air’s Tina Korbe and Allahpundit to the list. They really hate Newt. At Human Events, Ann Coulter has been trashing Newt (and Sarah Palin), and we all know who Ann’s been rooting for.

What were until recently reliable right of center news outlets have become corrupt tools of the GOP establishment.

Thanks for posting this. It is a good start to a list I am going to compile.

Last night, Mark Levin endorsed Romney. It was like being hit by a truck...

The beltway insiders who you mentionned are all in the tank for Mittens.

I think they honestly don’t have a clue what’s going on outside of DC.

Fox News Bashing Newt Gingrich:

1-14-2012 Charles on Fox financial show calls Newt a crybaby. “He can’t help going to the Bain Issue.”

1-14-2012 Judge Jeanine with Sarah Palin “Newt got booed for criticizing Romney

1-17-2012-Megyn Kelly on Fox. (1:05 pm est) She showed what Newt said to Juan Williams. She asked several people if Newt would get a bump from last nights debate. Some raised their hands yes. Of course, Megyn called on a woman who said no. Megyn asked her why. The woman said “He the absolute worst guy to represent us! He is an old, fat, rich, white guy.”

On that, we agree.

“why the supposedly conservative sources”

Because they aren’t and never were conservative, livius.
There is a distinct difference between the GOP and Conservatism, the latter represented by belief in Constitutional principles.

Of course there are some GOPers who are conservative and VV...but they are becoming a rare breed.

Livius, you keep commenting on Rush in the bag for Romney- because you’re absolutely right. That’s why he’s losing his audience. Don’t doubt me on this.

good letter, sdf.

But I would think it would have the most impact if you had added your real name.

Seriously, just having fun with you guys... rule number one, never become so emotionally invested in a candidate that you can't move onto the next best thing... Obama is a Black Marxist, and as such, he must be cast out. I would have been happy to support Newt, but he's done... d-o-n-e. You have a choice, you either support the GOP candidate or Obama.

Personally, I know this world is going to come to an end, and can live under whatever regime is installed. I'd rather have had Michelle, but she flew the coop, then Newt was my next choice, he crashed and burned when he choked on FannyMae and FreddyMac. Santorum was a next for me, but he had no appeal to me personally, and lastly we are stuck with u-no-who. I'm about as happy with this choice as I was with McCain... but I'll be damned if I just sit back and not vote because I don't like the man, you never know, the VP may be someone all of us could get behind... go easy now, and have a little fun... you actually gave me a chuckle with your comment, cause I do know how you feel.

Yes, he's been a stealth Romney supporter for awhile.

Here's an interesting little anecdote - today one of Rush's soundbites was romney answering a question about the war on women... and he answered back that obama is the one who has a war on women, and cited some statistics about how many women have lost jobs under obama.

A caller called in to say he disagreed with romney's response, but Rush defended Romney's response heartily. Here's the thing - Limbaugh was saying the exact same thing yesterday, almost word for word. Rush is giving romney talking points via his program, and Rush is getting off on it. It's like some big sticky thrill for him, romney taking advice from him.

Rush could never do that with Newt. He knows it.

I haven’t been sure what is going on with Rush. He hasn’t been himself. But your theory makes sense.

My criteria for determining if they are in the tank for Rom. is whether they are starting to give on air advice to him on what he should do to win over conservatives..
and I’ve heard El Rushbo do exactly that recently.

I’m away from Levin(on vaca). Anyone know if he is continuing his rightful criticism of Mitt-meister? Or has he bailed too and become one of his unofficial “consultants’. I would guess not.
That’s why he’s THE GREAT ONE!!!!

He never ran a serious candidacy. As in working for two years beforehand raising money, building an organization, getting on all the ballots. And NOT taking off a month last summer to go on a month-long Mediterranean cruise.

the thing is, Newt's still in, and except for Romney, everybody else is gone. So you might want to think that through a little more.

Oh, dear, you guessed wrong. Last night, he said it was time for conservatives to pull a victory out for Romney. Newt can't win, and now that Santorum's gone, it's time to start fighting Obama.

I wish I was kidding..

You and I have already discussed this matter- twice. You told me you listen to Rush in your car, everyday, while you work. Isn’t that correct???

Well, with all due respect, if that’s the case, you have absolutely no authority to be referring to others as “idiots” or “morons”.

Don’t doubt me on this— Rush was in the bag for Romney and the GOP-e.
