John Stossel: I left ABC ‘because it sucked there’
The Daily Caller ^ | 4-12-12 | Alexandra Myers

Former ABC News reporter John Stossel, in an interview with The Heritage Foundation, explained why he left ABC and how he arrived at Fox News.

Stossel left ABC in 2009 after working there for 28 years “because it sucked,” he said.

“They were hostile to these ideas that made us prosperous and I consider so important. They tolerated me for years,” said Stossel, “but by the end they were saying ‘Oh, you’re so predictable Stossel, you want to use libertarian economics all the time.’”

A turning point for Stossel came when he did a segment called “Stupid in America” about school choice. He said the show received good ratings and five years later he wanted to do a follow-up, to which ABC News said no.

I hope he made a lot of money working in a place where no one liked him including the viewers of the network. 28 years is a long time for a smart person to see light.

Preaching to the choir, while maybe more lucrative, and much easier, doesn't gain as many converts as going to a field where the grain is ripe for harvest.

He was as liberal and big government as they came until about ten years ago. He mentions it frequently on the show.

Sometimes it takes a while before you can shake off the many years of government indoctrination they call "public school".

I was thirty eight before I had my Damascus moment.

ABC NBC CBS CNN, Fox too are poor outlets for fair news. It is always slanted. A lot of women on Fox dress like they are in Vegas. Is there any smart reporters left...Dan Rather was a total hack but when he reported the news correctly, he was interesting to listen to. Now, the news is like TMZ/24/7. The Internet gives us the best information/variety of sources minus the terrible people on TV.

I was conservative before I got out of school. Hated school and is probably why the indoctrination did not work on me. Had a argument with the Marine recruiter when I was in 11th grade. He was a big dem supporter.

Well, except for the whole GWB National Guard reporting. The term "fake but accurate" comes to mind.

I was born a Conservative. Born in a family of Republicans. I don’t consider myself a Republican anymore as the party doesn’t represent my views and my values.

38? Wow, no wonder everyone thinks I’m “weird”. I was scratching my head at the crap since I was about 14 in the early 70’s.

I wonder if Mitt will eventually get the same acceptance (that he is “growing”).

I mean heck, even Ronaldus Magnus was a pro-choice democrat early in his career...

They didn’t offer me a job. I went over and said: “Please give me a job!”

LOL. John has done pretty well for himself.

I don't think Mitt is “growing”. He is one big flip-flop-a-minute that makes John Kerry look consistent. There is something fundamentally wrong with Romney's character. He will always say and do what he thinks will best benefit himself.
