An Army soldier who lost his arms and legs during his third tour in Afghanistan last week underwent surgery Monday as supporters from around the globe offer prayers and messages of hope on a family website.
Army Staff Sgt. Travis Mills, of Vassar, Mich., was injured when he stepped on an IED April 10 while serving with the 82nd Airborne in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He is recuperating at a hospital in Germany and hopes to return stateside on Tuesday, three days after his 25th birthday, his father told FoxNews.com.

“”Today was overall a good day! Travis went to physical therapy after begging his doctor to let him go. Todd Nicely (a quad amputee that has been incredibly supportive) was here to visit with Travis for a while, and that was really inspiring! Then the English’s from Fort Bragg stopped in, as well as Aunt Lisa, Tory, and Bobby. We have had a very very busy and eventful day. The thing we are looking for now is a good long night of sleep! Travis has surgery at 10:00am to do a “skin revision” on his left arm and have the sutures removed!””

Travis is out of surgery and doing great! He is doing some in-bed physical therapy right now. He is so motivated! Also, at the end of next week, he should have a prosthetic for his left arm!

Eeek! Sorry I am so behind here : o Drove 5 hours there, and then 5 hours back for our state GOP thingy, and am rather unsuccessfully trying to get back into the groove, sheepish look.
The GREAT news is that Travis has been working VERY hard and has made truly inspiring progress!!

This weekend has been very adventurous! We went into downtown Bethesda yesterday on the Metro for lunch. That was stressful! Then last night the doctor let Travis come stay the night at the Fisher House with us. Went to Target today and now chinese take-out for dinner. Travis is staying over again tonight!

Travis is doing very well. The past three nights we have all had dinner together at the Fisher House (where we are staying) next to the hospital! His friends TJ and Aaron got in today, and he has had a nice visit. Mom and Matt will be here tomorrow and then Aunt Lisa and Tory are leaving Sunday. The support we are receiving is very overwhelming, and the majority of Travis’s time is focused on therapy and getting well. We are prioritizing the valuable visiting time for family and close friends. Thank you so much again for continued support and prayers.
