Gov. Scott, in West Palm Beach, says Trayvon's family deserves justice

WEST PALM BEACH — Gov. Rick Scott got a reminder of the worldwide impact of the shooting death of Trayvon Martin at an international business conference here today.

When Scott appeared before a luncheon crowd of about 500 people from 20 different countries at the Palm Beach Strategic Forum, the moderator's first question was about the "serious concerns" that tourists and businesses might have about Florida and its "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law following the Feb. 26 killing of Martin.

Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old, was shot in a Sanford gated community by a neighborhood watch volunteer who claims he acted in self-defense.

Scott told the crowd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center that he had met with Martin's parents and "my commitment to them was that justice will prevail."

He told the group that a task force headed by Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll will review Stand Your Ground and other laws. And Scott voiced confidence in special prosecutor Angela Corey of Jacksonville.

"She believes the same way I do. We've got to have justice for Trayvon's family and due process for George Zimmerman," Scott said. "We're doing the right thing, and justice will prevail."

Corey filed second-degree murder charges against Zimmerman last week.

The shooting of Martin, who was black, has heightened racial tensions and drawn attention to the Stand Your Ground law, which allows a person to use deadly force if he or she feels it is necessary to prevent death or bodily harm.

Scott rejected the idea that Corey filed charges in response to public pressure.

"I've known Angela and I don't think Angela gets influenced by things other than what the facts are," Scott told reporters at the convention center.

"She's somebody that cares about victims, she wants due process for everybody involved, she wants to get the facts out. So she makes her decisions based on the facts and what's right," Scott said.

Scott also mentioned that a task force headed by Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll will be reviewing the state's laws, including the Stand Your Ground law.

Scott also spent about an hour speaking with about 30 business leaders at the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches. The governor repeated his calls for lower taxes and less regulation to make Florida more attractive for business and offered to make phone calls to businesses thinking of relocating to the state.

Zimmerman was tried and found guilty in the media. Enough already. Send down the new Black Panther party to settle it.

Governor Scott you are just about to turn the voters who put you into office, against you.

If I hear much more of this nonsense I will be one vote you will no longer get. I voted for you last time.

***The shooting of Martin, who was black...***

This always seems to get mentioned, but I don’t even see Mr. Zimmerman’s race or ethnicity anywhere - mmmmmmmm.......

Guess ‘white hispanic’ didn’t pack the punch it was supposed to. Now the press will let the reader assume Zimmerman is a white boy, and let the race-baiting chips fall where they may.

He got justice when he attacked Jorge Zimmerman, until proven otherwise.

If Jeff Atwater decided to run in the primary, he would have my vote over Scott in a heartbeat.

If “justice” means getting what you deserve, Trayvon got his “justice” back in February from the business end of pissed off citizen’s gun.

I wish one of these loud mouths would define “justice”. What do they want? A lynching?

Yes- they want a lynching- They got the ok from barack obama- dear leader- to go ahead with a vigilante lyncvhing, and they are running all the way into the end zone with that pass to them- Even our pre3sident isn’t man enough to stand up for true justice and is so riddled with racism that he turns a blind eye tlo true justice- No wonder he is aattackign religion and hte supreme courts because thse two institutions point out that injusticve is a sin and crime

He’ll get two black votes, and lose 20,000 white ones. What an a**hole. So glad I voted for him.

“Governor Scott you are just about to turn the voters who put you into office, against you.”

I was in NY when he was elected but I liked him. This shameless pandering to the race baiters and willingness to throw almost white Zimmerman under the bus turns me off completely. I was ready to support him with campaign money and my vote. Now I’m not sure he’ll get either.

There is a better than 50/50 chance that Trayvon's family has already received justice.

Trayvon, too.

All that pandering is going to look pretty foolish if Zimmerman is found not guilty.

"We've got to have justice for Trayvon's family..."

Funny, I didn't know justice was available for only one side of the picture.

Whatever happened to JUSTICE FOR ALL?
