Not since I dumped AE years ago
It might be wise to contact Scott Walker, I’m sure he would be interested.
Happens to me about 2 times per year. Take it seriously. The CC companies have programs that monitor unusual activity. Their might be more than one transaction that caught their attention. One time the transaction they flagged was correct but other transactions within a few days were fraudulent. You should check the rest of your transactions several days before and after that date.
Some scapegoat’s head needs to roll!
We donated the same amount in March to Walker but we used VISA. It went through fine. Odd that AE would do that.
I tried making a purchase to a company based in London and it was “declined” and within 30 seconds my phone was ringing and it was AmEx calling to let me know about the charge. I was amazed at the speed of their communication. I told them I was trying to making the charge and they cleared it immediately.
I’m sending him money this weekend. I am never upset about fraud notifications from CC processors. it happens to my wife and I three or four times a year. She works for a bank who declined her own debit card during a trip we took one year. I had a debit card loss of 2400.00 from some resort in Mexico one year. Money was refunded next day.
Wisconsin American Express Flags FReeper’s Donation to Friends of Walker with a fraud alert ping
Freep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Thank you Black Agnes for the alert.
If they were truly concerned with the transaction, they would have called you for verification. With them denying it and notifying you of their actions by snail mail, well, we know what side they’re on. Sorry, but a company that dictates to me how I spend my money... I’d have told them what they can do with their card and cancel my account right then.
I’d much prefer a few false-positives to fraudulent charges going through to Belarus or Croatia unencumbered.
Credit cards in general have been squirrelly about fraud holds lately. I’ve got a MasterCard that gets gaming purchases of all types on it monthly....WoW subscription, before that many years of Everquest, frequent purchases on Steam of cheap sale games, yet suddenly a single Steam purchase + $5 in Station Cash was enough to flag as fraudulent...
I think the CC companies are paranoid as hell about something atm...not necessarily politically motivated. May not be a popular point of view around here, but I’m also not saying yours definitely wasn’t political...just that I’m not perfectly convinced.
I had a problem like this with a local candidate just this week. But mine is a credit union debit card! Good thing I was on my way to hid hq. I made a cash donation in person. Things that make you go hmmmmmm.
Why are you using amex!?!?!
Giving a politician your credit card number is problematic based on history. Recurring charges will later show up. This goes back to the reason Lyndon Larouche served jail time after the 88 elections. Since then they all do it.
Amex has a quirky algorithm for detecting fraud that has frustrated me on occasion over the years. I appreciate the protection, but the logic is sometimes missing. One time I purchased something from a sketchy site in Eastern Europe with no problems. Hours later, I bought something from Amazon and bam, brick wall. Just a touch wacky.
