I thought most cars already have this “feature”.

Someone at Fox needs to watch Schoolhouse Rock to learn the difference between a Senate Bill and a law.

Another communists effort to place us in the box of slavery to the State. Wait until we get the toilet monitors to automatic record the size of a dump and charge accordingly. Better diet, things like this are on the way.

Eventually they’ll be required in all cars, old and new, and non-transmitting cars will be subjected to being pulled over by the police.

Once again, the commie pigs are making Americans have to pay for something that they don’t want. I guess if you’re a greedy politician and this “black box” maker is in your district, it’s a good thing.

Sounds great!!! NOT!!! Now the government can tax you for how many miles you drive, tax you for where you have been, tax you for those moments when you exceed speed limits, and a whole host of other BIG BROTHER activities!!!

Most newer cars already do this ,, simply buffers the data in the drivetrain and ABS computers ... the cost is minimal as memory (and that’s all we’re really talking about is a slightly larger non-volatile memory chip) is cheap..

someone’s going to make money “fixing” these...

Guess I better start saving my pennies for the last new car I’ll ever buy...a 2014 something or other (not a GM/FIAT/CHRYSLER though).

This has been in the works for a long, long time. I began writing my elected officials about this about 10 years ago. This not only paves the way for more government control and taxes, but its lawyer friendly too!

Insurance companies and lawyers will now have much stronger cases to assess blame.

The of course there are “malfunctions” common to every device on a modern automobile. I suspect that would be happening to mine all the time.

It’s been in the works for years.
Insurance companies are all for it.
In a way it makes sense *if* one thinks of driving as a privilege, not a right. The reasoning goes ‘why should cars be subject to less tracking than airplanes?’
heck, a camera at each corner, accelerometer and other data, a 2 minute loop recording the data that stops looping in case of an accident and thus has the last, but only the last two minutes of info...
