Top Dem vows to overturn Supreme Court on immigration (Hand in the cookie jar again)

Sen. Charles Schumer said Tuesday he wants to overturn a Supreme Court ruling last year that allowed states to require businesses to make sure their workers are in the country legally and said Congress should also be prepared to overturn a possible future ruling favoring state enforcement of immigration laws.

Speaking at a hearing on Arizona’s 2010 law cracking down on illegal immigration, Mr. Schumer said that Congress has repeatedly passed laws making clear that it, not the states, should have jurisdiction over immigration law. He said his legislation would reaffirm that stance.

“I believe it is simply too damaging to our economy and too dangerous to our democracy to have 50 states doing 50 different things with regard to immigration policy,” said Mr. Schumer, New York Democrat and chairman of the SenateJudiciary Committee’s immigration subcommittee.

The hearing came a day before the Supreme Court hears arguments on Arizona’s contentious immigration law,

See post #6...between the lines lies the UNIONS...even if the legal Latinos banned together to call for legal immigration - New York is NOT a Right To Work State...the UNIONS would see to it they all lost their jobs. It is a damned if you do or damned if you don’t situation. Vote the long in the tooth crooked senator out of office.

Hey Chuck U. Dipwad: if the Feds would strictly enforce the immigration laws already on the books this would be a moot point and AZ would never have enacted HB1070. Idiot.

The only construction that Schumer is experienced with would be houses of cards.
