Former Miss America runs for Congress

Miss America 2003 Erika Harold will run for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in Illinois, she confirmed Monday.

Harold was an outspoken conservative during her reign as Miss America. She spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention.

A 2003 congressional resolution honoring her noted she has "remarkable achievements and her resolve to empower youth against violence and degradation."

Among her achievements, the resolution noted were her service as: •National spokesperson for the Teen Victims Project of the National Center for Victims of Crime; •National Spokesperson for Fight Crime: Invest in Kids; •National Advisory for Peace Games; •National Board of Directors for the Center of Youth as Resources; and •Advisory Council for the Empower Program.

Academically, Congress said, she was accepted into the Harvard School of Law, and "was named Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, and was named University of Illinois Chancellor Scholar."

The resolution "honors her for her vision, determination, and integrity; and recognizes her as a strong positive role model for youth in the United States."

Mrs TaMoDee has just reminded me that the Obumba economy has
forced nice ladies to use the recycle cloth material we both don’t like. Are flour and sugar sacks next?

Johnson announced his retirement AFTER he won renomination. Presumably, she’s put forth her name as a replacement candidate.

So, if she gets the nod for the Johnson vacancy, we’ll have 2 Black GOP ladies going to the next Congress. That half-dozen Black Republican Congressmembers looks like a true reality for the next Congress.

That's about 200% more women of colour (to use the current PC term) than the Obama administration (save for Mooch hell)

I’m amazed at the number of women I see who wear clothes that appear to be made from material that was recovered from drapes, sofas, and throw-pillow covers. :-(

Carol Burnett is the only one who's ever been able to carry that look off properly... /g

Agreed, DJ, if Erika Harold is selected as Tim Johnson’s replacement as GOP nominee, she will coast to victory, given that it’s a GOP-leaning district and the RAT nominee is some loser. And a young, attractive, intelligent black woman who is an eloquent advocate for social conservatism would be a formidable weapon in our fight to remove the Democrats’ stranglehold over black voters. But will the county GOP chairmen who get to pick Johnson’s replacement choose Erika Harold over the political insiders and Johnson aides who are seeking the nomination? Remember, the last time an Illinois congressman retired right after winning the primary (Bill Lipinski), he ended up strongarming the Chicago ward leaders entrusted to pick his replacement to select his son (Dan Lipinski).

Exactly which part of her is guilty, in your estimation?

Asymmetrical chin, for one.

At first I thought, “for what seat, filing is way over”.

Duh!

I doubt that the party bosses would pick her but you never know. At least one of them seems to like her. There are a lot of potential candidates.

The democrats had hoped to compete for this seat, but that’s not gonna happen with David Gill. It’s a good thing rat State Rep Hoffman quit the race.
