This is sad....they don’t want people who can think.....even a little bit.
If crucial services are peopled with even this level of cognitive thinking.....cities are going to burn down.

A) Hold the woman's right arm above her head. B) Apply a tourniquet just below the woman's right elbow. C) Press the artery that is closest to the wound against a bone. D) Use a sterile dressing to apply direct pressure to the wound.
I nominate this for "least painfully obvious". The "direct pressure" answer is well known to many because of first aid instruction from various sources, but I don't think it's obvious on the face of it.

Sorry, but anything that Holder says is racist is almost assuredly non-racist (if there is such a thing)...
They ask questions on the assumption that test-takers have zero experience, so they must provide such information. That question couldn't be easier, if the reader possesses even a basic ability to comprehend written English.

While I am shocked the village voice seems to agree it’s not racist, they ask if these questions will make a good firefighter. My answer is no, but it will get rid of the idiots real fast.
My husband is a ff in a different city in NY. Hey village voice, this test doesn’t get you the job. You then have an interview, physical exam psychological profile, and go to the Academy. You’re competing against those with Associates and Bachelor’s degrees in fire science. You may suck at the interview, fail out of the academy (next this will be racist), not be up to physical standards. Then if you’re hired you’re on probation.
The test gets you put higher on the list for an interview where we live. If they don’t find those qualified that scored the highest on the test, they go to the next group. If someone couldn’t answer those questions, I would not want hubby going into a burning building with them! And then there’s the officers exams.

Is there a choice of languages for these tests?
What is the time limit for these tests?

Multiple choice answers are so easy. One doesn’t have to read the question in order to pick the correct answer.
I would consider these tests racist if the student had to pull the answer out of their head and write it out. Picking A B C or D is a no brainer.

There’s certainly no direct hint of “direct pressure”, and I maintain that there is no reason to suppose from common experience, which does not include emergency encounters with severe bleeding, that direct pressure on the wound would be efficacious. Come to think of it, I seem to recall that this doctrine was a replacement for previous teaching about tourniquets and pressure points as mentioned in the alternative answers.
