Scientists have revealed one of the reasons why some folks are less religious than others: They think more analytically, rather than going with their gut. And thinking analytically can cause religious belief to wane — for skeptics and true believers alike.
The study, published in Friday's edition of the journal Science, indicates that belief may be a more malleable feature of the human psyche than those of strong faith may think.
The cognitive origins of belief — and disbelief — traditionally haven't been explored with academic rigor, said lead author Will Gervais, a social psychologist at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
"There's been a long-standing intellectual tradition of treating science as one thing and religion as separate, and never the twain shall meet," he said. But in recent years, he added, there has been a push "to understand religion and why our species has the capacity for religion."
According to one theory of human thinking, the brain processes information using two systems. The first relies on mental shortcuts by using intuitive responses — a gut instinct, if you will — to quickly arrive at a conclusion. The other employs deliberative analysis, which uses reason to arrive at a conclusion.

Of course the things that are beyond my knowledge, whether scientifically proven or still a mystery (such as the miracles Jesus performed), I do what Jesus said-have the faith of a little child-utterly trusting Him-or as a mustard seed-still trusting Him, though doubting myself or others.
By nature...by definition...how much of the nature of the creation would we be capable of understanding? If “our ways are not your ways”...when sent, was it to be disregarded?

Thinking deminished my adherence to religious dogma, but vastly improved my relationship with my Savior.
That’s what I mean-we’ve already been told by God more than once in various verses that we’re not meant to know the whole truth while we’re here. Eve wanted to know everything which God knew by eating from the fruit of the tree of knowledge after God Himself forbade it. I think God has a reason for denying us “the whole truth” before Heaven-he doesn’t wanted us to be tempted that we’re equal with Him. That was Lucifer’s mistake.
Of course, He gave us a mind to know all that we’re meant to know while here, and it already seems a lot, with so much more to know. But there’s just that bit He’s keeping back-as I say, I believe mostly things like Jesus’ miracles, the mysteries of Revelations, the Rapture, things like that-because we’re human, we can’t handle knowing every last thing while we”re still here in the old bodies of flesh.
There is a difference between wisdom and intelligence. Trained ability in math and science does not endow a person with the ability to put it all together. A person can be educated well beyond their intelligence.

This is very confusing. First, you attribute ability in math and science to "training", and deprecate it as such. Then you say we can be educated beyond our intelligence! Isn't education training? What are you trying to say?

Everyone has a religion, even if it doesn’t LOOK like what we would normally call a religion. Whether its global warming, worship of big government or vain worship of their own bodies, there is always a ‘religion’ of some kind.

These atheists do not comprehend faith and the realm of human existence it serves - spirit. They think they are the experts on human existence but they only acknowledge the material. That is like the sand thinking it is the cement. I guess they believe art comes out of thinking, too. And love comes out of thinking. Compassion and empathy comes out of thinking. The inspiration of art and music must come out of thinking...
I would never want to live in an atheist’s body if they are this shallow and hollow.
