Elizabeth Warren campaign, challenged on Native American heritage claims, ‘digging up some sort of evidence to appease you’ By Matthew Boyle - The Daily Caller 2:50 PM 04/30/2012

Massachusetts senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren described herself in law-school professional directories as a Native American minority from 1986 to 1995.

The white Democratic candidate has so far offered no evidence that she is, in fact, part Native American, suggesting that she may have falsified that ethnic credential to advance her academic career in the early affirmative-action era. But “it is true,” a Warren spokeswoman told The Daily Caller on Monday, “and we’re working on digging up some sort of evidence to appease you.”

Another Warren spokeswoman shot back at the campaign of incumbent Republican Sen. Scott Brown, whom Warren is challenging for the senate seat once held by the late Ted Kennedy.

“If Scott Brown has questions about Elizabeth Warren’s well-known qualifications — from her high marks as a teacher to her nationally recognized work on bankruptcy and the pressures on middle class families — he ought to ask them directly instead of hiding behind the nasty insinuations of his campaign and trying to score political points,” spokeswoman Mindy Myers said in a statement.

Harvard University’s decision to promote Warren as a minority faculty member brought the issue front-and-center, but the Boston Herald reported Monday that Warren described herself that way when she taught at the University of Texas and the University of Pennsylvania.

American law school directories listed Warren as a minority professor for nine years before Harvard scooped her up, and Harvard apparently used that information to promote her as a minority, the Herald first reported Friday. (RELATED: More on Elizabeth Warren)

I don’t know what all the fuss is about. I was born in Brooklyn, NY so that makes me a Native American.

Sung to the tune of "Half-Breed" by Cher

My father married up a Cherokee

According to the Harvard Faculty

I guess that makes me a minority

It feels like I just hit the Lottery!

Half-breed, that's all I ever heard

Half-breed, how I learned to love the word

Half-breed, that's my ticket to ride

All my enemies had better run and hide!

Being an Indian has been good to me

It doesn't hurt to be a Cherokee

Them Ivy Leaguers think I'm the cat's meow

"Run her for senate, she can beat Scott Brown

Half-breed, and I'm a Marxist through and through

Half-breed, and I'm coming after you

Half-breed, I'm gonna make them capitalists mourn

Scott Brown's going to wish that he was never born

There's only one thing better than being a Cherokee

And that is marrying up a Kennedy

But since there's no chance I can accomplish that feat

I'm gonna win them back their senate seat

I need to start ginning up some family lore about my kids' diverse ancestry. Will serve them well come college application time.

“digging up some sort of evidence to appease you.”

So far, she’s produced two ticket stubs to Cleveland Indians games, an affidavit that she liked “Dances With Wolves”, and a Super-8 film of her appearance in a second-grade Thanksgiving pageant.

Shows ambition on the part of Ms. Warren, she realized that a drop of Indian blood could mean a lot for advancement in her chosen career field because of affirmative action.

Certainly not the first to do it in a university or government office, and won’t be the last.

It was either that, or spend enough time at the Mormon genealogy library to demonstrate that she’s a descendent of Ferdinand and Isabella so she could get Hispanic status.

I live in Oklahoma, where Ms Warren is from. The Indians here are very strict about their Tribal Rolls and don’t take kindly to fakery. She hasn’t even said what tribe she claims to be, as far as I know. I haven’t heard anything on the local news. A few months ago, she was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. (barf)

I think she has said Cherokee and Delaware.

I recall something by an Indian activist a long time ago--that white people claiming to have some Indian ancestry always would come up with "Cherokee."

If Elizabeth Warren is an Indian, then Disney's "Pocahontas" is a documentary.

Pfft, A county in the Cherokee area of Oklahoma is even named after an ancestor of mine, Mayes County, but I never claimed anything despite finding the names on the Tribal rolls. Way I figured it, my German and Irish heritage explained the drinking enough, I didn’t need Indian!

Warren is like that idiot in Colorado who claimed to be an Indian for years. A fraud.

As a “White” Native American myself I’ll take a guess at what might be the truth here. She might be just another lying Democrat with no claim to Indian blood. Or she might be in the situation many other “White” Native Americans are in, that is unable to prove her claim.

In my case (which is probably not unique) we KNOW my great grand mother was an Indian but when she was born in 1861 her parents protected her by having “White” put on her birth certificate. She was dark skinned and within the family there was no question about who she was and what her background was. When she died they just carried on the charade and check the “White” box on her death certificate.

Since Democrats have always been the type of people who would force a family to call a half Indian child “White” to protect her this would be just too see Warren fall into this web :-)
