Chinese state media reported that Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng on Wednesday voluntarily left the U.S. Embassy in Beijing after a six-day stay. Chen was reportedly at a medical facility in Beijing where he was to be united with his family, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal, which cited a U.S. official. Chen sought refuge in the U.S. Embassy in late April, sparking what some reports described as a major diplomatic crisis between China and the U.S. ahead of high-level talks on a range of strategic issues slated to begin in Beijing on Thursday.

The Chinese government has demanded an apology from Obama for temporarily harboring the political dissident in the US embassy. Obama might just provide one.

That's the second one to leave the Embassy of the "land of the free and the home of the brave" "voluntarily". At what point during the Obama Administration did we lose that moniker?

With this Administration, who knows what the truth is. Did he leave voluntarily? Was he coerced by threats to his wife and children? What type of medical “care” is he receiving? Did Obama make a deal? So many questions.

A blind Chinese escapes?
Maybe their secret service has a hooker problem too.
He goes to our embassy and then decides to leave on his own?
Sure he did.
Will CBS carry the firing squads? There will be several. The guards that let a blind man escape are probably already dead.

I think this could be connected with Geitners coming visit to the PRC.
A little diplo-tit-for-tat as it were.

OK Mitt Romney...
Step up, clear and simply take the right stand for freedom. Had Romney said anything before this happened, he would have been meddling.
But now, make Obama (and Rodham) wear this disgrace.
How very disappointing America has done this.

How very disappointing America has done this.As a Perry, then Santorum supporter, I am not Myth's biggest fan. At this point, however, all I'm looking forward to this election season is not so much for Romney to be elected, but for Obama to be punished. I want that wicked man gone from the White House. If Myth turns out to be an Obama clone, that's obviously not great, but I'll settle for a glimpse of the look of humiliation and shock on Obama's face on Election Day when he finds out he's no longer gonna be president.

For anyone on our side, who is not simply obsessed against Romney, how Romney responds to this (and whether he does so today) will be a very important indicator of his character.
This is Romney’s moment to define himself for real.
Do the right thing Romney. The moment is right now.

At this point it's not clear he wanted to leave China. Some (non-Mainland) Chinese media are reporting that he wanted to stay, and that his main concern was the treatment of his family, who have been beaten by Chinese authorities.
It is certainly the case that other dissidents who have been allowed to leave have been rendered completely ineffective. Does anyone talk about Wei Jingsheng anymore?
He certainly will do little good for victims of forced abortion or other human-rights violations from San Francisco or New York. He may have been brave enough to choose to stay, come what may. We will see.
