New Haven prides itself as being a ‘sanctuary’ city. The New Haven Register refers to illegals as immigrants. Compound that with the pre-existing black crime problem and you have a city that has lost its way ... not anyplace you would want to live.

New Haven, long a troubled city with dependably liberal mayors, managed to push out the middle class a long time ago. The political climate is quasi-communist and the crime problem is huge. FBI statistics show New Havens violent crime rate 256% higher than the national average. Tough town.

Dixwell Avenue in New Haven is a place that you generally do not want to stop on at night, and you certainly don’t want to turn right or left off of. I used to live just North of Newhallville ((shudder)).My Grampa lived on Dixwell Ave, north end in Hamden. As soon as you crossed the city border between Hamden and New Haven, you could see the difference. I'm talking the late 60's and early 70's.
Haven't been back for over 22 years.
