A Mormon in the White House
New York Post ^ | May 5, 2012 | Maureen Callahan

-snip-

62% [of mormons] say that Americans are “uninformed” about the religion. Yet the reluctance of most Mormons to discuss their beliefs and customs with non-members only adds to secular suspicion that the church is a cult.

-snip-

Romney would also be assigned two “home teachers” — fellow Mormons who live in his vicinity and would visit with Romney once a month, probably in the White House, to counsel him on his faith and general emotional state

-snip-

Less than two hours after my visit — despite giving staffers only my first name and filling out no paperwork — I was startled to get a voicemail on my cellphone from someone identifying himself as a prophet, saying that he’d like to “start interceding for your life” and asking me to call an 800 number to join a prayer circle.

says that she specifically asked to be moved to [Sen. Harry] Reid’s Maryland chapel, because she has a relative who’s gay and her former place of worship housed some older, bigoted congregants.

She’ll be worshipping with Brother Romney should he win. Even if he loses, however, author Feldman thinks that his nomination itself is a watershed moment.

“That so many Americans don’t know he’s a Mormon, and that his religion wasn’t a factor in this primary — as it was four years ago — that’s directional,” he says. “ It’s a historically significant moment, and it’s progress. We’re improving as a country.”

The Mormon religion is no weirder than Scientology.

This is the same religious bigotry that JFK faced.

No it is not...it isn't even close. It's another beast altogether. Just for starters JFK din't profess himself to be a God...nor did his church have a political agenda to appoint JFK as a savior.

“Anyhow this is about Mitt and the concern about Mormon influence upon the way he would govern if president.”

I don’t think we have anything to worry about with respect to his Mormonism.
I do think we should be concerned about his political philosophy though. Like most other religions, Mormons come in many political shades. How else do you countenance the likes of Harry Reid, who is also a Mormon, and a POS at the same time. For what it’s worth, Mormons I know, can’t understand why the church has not excommunicated Reid, which is more than can be said for the Catholics and the Pelosi’s and Biden’s of their faith.

I am given to understand that there is much in the foundational papers of the Mormon faith which would plainly condemn the conduct of a Harry Reid, as well as many of Mitt Romney’s leftist tendencies. I’d have to ask why isn’t Reid censured for not living up to such standards, let alone Romney.

What do you consider a organization that requires that you not affiliate “with any group or individual that teach practices that are not in agreement with church teachings” in order to attend its temple?

What do you consider an organization that shuns you if you leave it, and makes sure that the others in the organization shun you too (and see what would happen if THEY left)?

Sometimes a spade has to be called a spade.

You distinguish a cult as one that only wants 100% of your belongings -

What do you call an organization that demands you give up your children for two years?

Germany? They demand citizens give up their ‘children’ for a couple years of military service. Is Germany a cult?

I thought you meant a priest or pastor from another church.
