Rasmussen: Three-Way Race: Romney 44%, Obama 39%, Ron Paul 13%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 05/08/2012

Texas Congressman Ron Paul appears more interested in influencing the direction of the Republican Party than in running as an independent presidential candidate. But perhaps Democrats should be careful what they wish for: Even if Mitt Romney’s remaining GOP challenger should run as a third party candidate, new Rasmussen Reports surveying finds Romney the winner of a three-way race.

The latest national telephone survey shows that 25% of Likely U.S. Voters think Paul should run as a third party candidate. Sixty-one percent (61%) disagree, but 13% more are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The national survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on May 6-7, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

My Liberaltarian brothers would always tell me:

"What if Ron Paul ran third party huh? Wouldn't that decimate any Republicans chance of winning the White House?

I always responded that Dr. Elron Paul would probably take away more of Obama's base than the GOP nominees. Glad to see Raz confirms my theory.

What would this do to the swing states? My guess: Paul would push all of them into Romney’s camp. I will not be excited by a Romney win, but I will dance in the streets when we get rid of the anti-American socialist who has occupied our White House for three years!

I’d like to see a poll with Sarah Palin running on the Tea Party ticket included.

RE :”Agree. But I cannot figure out how the same “youths” who found John McCain's age disgusting, so eagerly endorse Paul, who was born a year earlier than McCain?
Some of the same college age Paulbots who were supporting Paul in 2008 shifted their support to Obama, because McCain was “old”.

I don't think it is quite that simple, In 2008 supporting Obama was the COOL/rebel thing to do for them and he was a blank slate to them, unlike Grandpa McCain. They all wanted to join in,

But Obama is no longer an unknown, he is still at war and no jobs and no legal drugs, the only thing he delivered on was the gay rights stuff....so the kids moved back to Paul who supports the gay stuff too.

I see Ron Paul as another cult leader with a cult following, and Responsibility is the LAST thing that cult leaders want. I don't think he is the least bit serious, but then again I predicted with certainty that neither Trump nor Palin would run. Those were easy calls.

If Ron Paul accepts an offer to endorse Romney in exchange for becoming Treasury Secretary and a spot on the ticket for his son, Obama will be a crusin’ for a bruisin’...

Might cost Romney Texas. THAT would be a major problem.

... but it probably hurts Romney in Texas... and maybe my own state of Pennsylvania, where Ron Paul does well in certain suburban & rural areas.

YUUUUUUUP!

Look for a movement to draft Paul to run third party. Pressure from some thinly-veiled Soros-backed entity with a noble name, like “Texans for Presidential Alternatives”.

Fascinating.

I can can tell you one thing, I see comments online all the time from people who purport to be Paul supporters trashing Romney and the GOP and saying they like Obama.

He definitely won’t lose a close race.
The ‘rats will never lose another close race.

They have the Secretary of State project (”elected” Al Franken),
and they have outright voter fraud.

We have to beat 0bama by more than the “margin of fraud”.

Any way you slice it, Obama’s re-election hopes are gone. I’ve made the point over and over that this election has zero to do with anything except Barry. For the first time in his existence, the Kenyan has a record.

You have way more faith in the American public than I do. I think the majority are sheer idiots and will vote for Obamarx because they promise to give them stuff for "free".

RE :”I can can tell you one thing, I see comments online all the time from people who purport to be Paul supporters trashing Romney and the GOP and saying they like Obama.

MSNBC was going through Romney's history on this and showed that Romney has been very anti-gay advancement since about 2004. They said he opposed civil unions too. I saw some complaints here that he didnt openly defy the MA courts rulings, but what governor does that? None.

Romney doesn't appeal to younger voters(why would anyone think he would?) , but they are also disillusioned by Obama. Not only is there no jobs for them and we are still at war but Obama enforcing Federal laws against medical marijuana against state laws is very unpopular with them.

Where is Ron Paul on this Obama gay marriage? I thought he would be on MSNBC joinng the party last night.

Back to Romney, he is trapped in a box of his own making.

Romney, Obama, Ron Paul

Three democrats.

That's not a choice.

That's why I'm going to do everything in my power to see that the people actually have a truly republican choice, so that there is no legitimate excuse for voting for these people.

I saw a list of tweets about the Obama gay announcement.

The best was “Pink smoke is rising from the White House Chimney”.

The one relevant to this thread is

“Pressure grows on Biden to say he thinks weed is pretty awesome too”

A lot of people really care an awful lot about that. If Romney would buy them each a dime bag he’d win their support.
