(CNSNews.com) A White House chef told health professionals on Monday that obesity endangers national security as well as peoples health and thats why he and many other people have embraced First Lady Michelle Obamas Lets Move campaign.
What motivates us is not just the fact that one in three Americans will have diabetes in their lifetime if we dont change course, but the impact that it is having on our economy, on our health care system or our kids ability to learn, Sam Kass said. Its not just the fact that obesity may be our nations greatest national security threat, although all those reasons are of vital importance, he added.
Kass was the personal chef for the Obama family before they moved into the White House. Hes now an assistant chef and food initiative coordinator at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
On Monday, at a Weight of the Nation event hosted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Washington, Kass said he and Mrs. Obama are dedicating the rest of our lives to the well-being of the next generation.
This is our lifes work, Kass said. The first lady dedicated her time and passion at the White House because this issue meant most to her as a mother and as an American.
Kass said Lets Move has made a difference since it was launched in February 2010.
On Feb. 9, 2012, marking the initiatives second anniversary at an event in Iowa, the first lady heard touching personal stories about how Lets Move had changed their lives, how theyre eating wholesome food and having fun moving, Kass said.
The energy of those 14,000 kids dancing and cheering for fruits and vegetables it was amazing reminds me of just how far weve come from those conversations around the kitchen table in Chicago to those first plants we put in the ground (at the White House), Kass said.
Ahead of Kass remarks, Mrs. Obama addressed the crowd by video: We are truly making a difference, but there is still "a long way to go, she said.
Hundreds of health professionals from the public and private sector attended the event, which included a wide range of sessions covering everything from food marketing to children, weight bias and discrimination, healthy hospital food and beverages, and a panel discussion on New Angles on Implementing a Healthy School Food/Nutrition Environment.

Yet, she can't find a mirror in our White House big enough to show her how huge her posterior is! This woman is a big, fat disgrace! To think that she is carrying so much weight around and yet she finds time to tell us our kids are too fat. Why doesn't one of her 24 personal attendants (I don't think Marie Antoinette had that many) tell her what she looks like from the ass end?
But dare we even suggest cutting back on food stamps, or even ask how much recipients weigh?
Perhaps that's one of the reasons why they couldn't manage to pay off their school loans on an income of $500k per year.
Wow. I was not aware that ever muslim had vanished from the planet...........
This White House is our greatest national security threat this country has ever had!
the polite way Communists announce their intent to STARVE US?

They had a Personal Chef BEFORE moving into the White House? MY how 1% of them.

I think of myself as a human shield for the rest of you...
No, the people you are cooking Kobe beef for are the greatest national threat at present.
How could fat people be a “national security” threat? Are they going to block elevators or eat all our food or sink battleships. Maybe they will form their own interest group and threaten to squish us?
And yet what individual Americans eat or choose to serve their families, short of grilling their fellow Americans or other humanoid and quasi-humanoid types (Im thinking of the ________ wearing variety) on the barbecue, is none of the governments _______ business.
...and lobsters nationwide head for deeper water as word spreads Mooochele’s hungry
