This would explain the 2008 election cycle.

"prescription drug"

just so all you free druggers/libertarians rememeber:...the biggest problem with drug addled people is from prescription drugs...its absolutely epidemic....

so we could have all the legal drugs in the world.....we'll still have millions willing to rob, assualt, steal etc just to get another percocet/oxycontin...

..they never can have enough....so they resort to crime...

Well, it all depends on what they consider pain pills, In November, I had a 4-way bypass, open heart surgery, and the only thing I had for pain was Tylanol. And beleive me, I’m a big chicken when it comes to pain.

I try not to be a pill popper of any kind. I’ve never taken the bc pill, anti-depressants, etc. I have to have a pretty good headache coming on to take an aspirin, Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, etc. I’m amazed at how many pills my parents take especially my dad. I think they’ve prescribed everything to him that a geriatric person could take. They are of the generation/mindset that if a doctor says you should take it, then you do.

Americans consume 80 percent of the world's supply of painkillers -- more than 110 tons of pure, addictive opiates every year -- as the country's prescription drug abuse epidemic explodes.

I'd be curious to see a source for this assertion.

These pain killers are too dangerous. The regular population can use aspirin. Doctors will be permitted to prescribe pain killers to those in government or those who have graduated from Harvard.

A hundred tons? Not even close to the amount of coke and crack consumed in the U.S. each year. America the zonked.

We've become a society of wusses,' Long Island, New York, pharmacist Howard Levine told the BBC.

I bet NY RPh Howard Levine never had a migraine that kicked him in the head with pain so severe that it made him vomit repeatedly and then pass out from the pain ... on a regular basis.

My wife has a pinched nerve in her upper back that causes migraines 24/7 to one degree to another. She is on 6 dalada (morphine) and 300 micrograms of fentanal ( heroin) patches every three days. For the first 2 and half years after her car wreak she had to sit in a dark room no sound or it was throw up all the time. She is now functioning fairly well see her pain doctor once a month.

worse thing about most pain meds is the tylenol they put in them to destroy the liver

the opiates in regular dosage are fairly benign physiologically

problem starts when someone cannot simply do with a routine dose like 5-10mg of oxycodone or hydrocodone 2-3 times a day and has to go always reaching for the buzz...the heightened sense of well being that comes and goes

I have cervical arthritis, sternal arthritis and lumbar issues and nursed two hip abscesses the size of a bar of soap the past year

I get 2 Lortabs or Percocets a day and cervical spinal injections 3-4 times annually...they help some

I have been offered stronger stuff like patches, dilaudid or ms contin...time released morphine but turned them down

i prefer to take lower dosage entry level opiates as I see fit...some days might be a 10mg day...others a 30...I had a 40 day when the surgeon did two I&Ds on the abscesses...with no anesthetic and I had no meds since I feared they might give me something more general...wow..pain worse than my gun shots or open heart

anyhow...I function fine...5 kids...work all day...and i mean all day...often every day...self employed

I don't drink...no street dope...and the docs will test for that time to time

anyhow...it helps folks like me..worst part for me is the tylenol...which they do omit form the higher level dope

there is a move afoot to omit it from hydrocodone and oxycodone

btw...shame of banning Darvocet in my view

but it is abused...no question

pain dope and xanax and hormones and johnson dope are probably 75% of the pharmacy market in the US,,,i see the junkies and resellers at the doc and drugstore all the time...you can just tell...but they also test to make sure you are taking them or they will ask for a pill count...it's pretty rigid...and if u doc shop and they find out...and they will since all pain meds are on a system with drugstores here in TN...then the doc will drop u....that is a genuine pain/nerve ablation/epidural sort of practice....the non genuine pill peddlers get closed quick and move around a lot

as a kid I could always take more dope than anyone but i always never made a habit either...never..cept cigarettes for a while

some folks can just do that and other go hog wild...one drink..one snort...one pill...anything ...next thing you know they are taking 10-20 times the therapeutic doses..like someone we all know and love so well did..

Nice little monopoly the govt has in the pain relief industry.

Seeking relief from pain outside of their industry is criminal.

The real crime is the govt declaration of the suffering as criminal.

Prohibition needs to end. It's not Constitutional!

220 tons - after ObamaCare is implemented.

We probably consume 80% of the world’s milk, beef, seafood, etc., too. Is there an epidemic involving those?

“Consume” or prescribed, big difference. A lot of it is sitting on shelves, in drawers, or went into the trash unused. Besides, Americans paid for the R&D, why can’t we get most of what we paid to have developed?
