Gay marriage decision not working in Obama's favor so far
Los Angeles Times ^ | May 15, 2012 | Paul West

It’s been one week since President Obama, prodded into action by Vice President Joe Biden’s remarks on a Sunday talk show, granted Robin Roberts of ABC News an interview in which he revealed his personal policy shift on gay marriage. Whether or not Obama’s decision, and the way it was handled politically, will make a difference on election day is still anyone’s guess — and may always be. Parsing reactions by millions of individual voters, particularly on an issue that ranks far below other concerns for most Americans, obviously involves a measure of guesswork.

That said, the first wave of polling is in, and the results aren’t looking particularly good for Obama. Taken together, four different national opinion surveys over the past week, by reputable organizations with good track records, indicate that the president’s stand could well hurt him politically. Unsurprisingly, the numbers are fairly close; but as often gets pointed out, tight elections are decided by small numbers of votes.

Perhaps the most encouraging sign for Obama comes from a new ABC/Washington Post poll, which found that independent swing voters had a slightly more favorable than unfavorable view of his position (though the results were a statistical tie, given the margin of error for that subgroup). ABC’s analysis, by statistician Damla Ergun of Langer Research Associates, pointed out that independents who reacted most strongly to the decision tilted against it, and that “strong sentiment can better predict voter turnout and vote preferences.”

A Gallup poll found that the overall change in public opinion was a” net minus” for Obama, though the organization cautioned that these results could change, depending on the degree to which same-sex marriage is, or is not,

It's the it was $ alright but I think the lack of $ from the voters is what's going to bite him in the end. You can put as much as you want into an election but the average American voter knows they are without a job, they see what's in the wallet and they feel the gas prices.

The republicans need to keep a focus on those issues and explain to the American voter exactly why things are like they are and not fall for Obama's tactic of changing the issues of this election.

The good news is (if he's smart)Romney only needs to keep talking the economy and let Obama keep talking about gay marriage.

Stupid stupid move by Obama, I mean mind-numbingly stupid.

He already had the gay vote locked up, he didn’t have to do one thing to get their vote.

All he did was firmly turn the independents against him...I could hear the sound of the High-Fives coming all the way from Romney Headquarters.

How it plays out politically remains to be seen.

However, at present Obama is flying around the country accepting bags of campaign cash as pay-off from the gay lobby.

To that extent, he’s gotten what he wanted.

Romney’s no Reagan,

but pretty much all that Reagan had to do was ask

“are you better off than you were 4 years ago?”

“What good is gay marriage if you cannot afford the ring to put on his finger?” should be Romney’s second question.

I think some blacks will stay at home and not vote — so he may still get 95 percent of those who vote, but a chunk of them will not go to the polls. A black minister in Washington, D.C. has already announced he is staying him election day because of Obama’s gay marriage stand. This man, in turn, can influence an entire congregation. You could see the replicated around the nation.

This scenario only works if you don’t examine Romney’s views too closely. He was known as the “father of gay marriage” in MA (where he supported it heavily), and only became lukewarm on the topic when he decided he wanted to go national and get the non-MA GOP to sponsor him.

More likely, he’ll see a downturn in turnout.

That actually is a big deal. For whatever reason, it appears that skin melanin hoarder Americans will always vote over 90% for the Democrat party. Though this party has stood against anything Christian, promoted abortion (which disproportionately hits these skin melanin one percenters), and supported homosexuality - they seem forced to pull the lever for anyone with a 'D' by their name.
The big factor is the turnout. If typically only 20% show up to the polls, whereas 90% showed up in 2008, that can cause a significant effect.

Of course you don’t hear it from the media, but the Obummer campaign is going through their money like .... well, like it’s taxpayer money - poof & it’s gone. The campaign staff is huge & spending like there is no tomorrow & they are in a bit of a panic because the cash isn’t rolling in as fast/much as they thought & over some ‘low’ poll numbers ... just made a 25 mill ad buy ... way early for that. In other words, when the Obummer bunch were told that the gay pocketbooks (his biggest bundlers are gay) couldn’t be pried open with a crowbar unless they got ‘something’ from the gay blade in the WH, he went for the $$. Gay for pay .... not necessarily for ‘votes’.

I mean, seems like a bad political move.

But, but but, (pardon the pun) Obama insists it's not political.

I think Romney’s what you want him to be only until he gets elected...and then he’s going to be Barry II, but worse, because this means that the GOP will have completely accepted the Dem plan. Actually, he’s not going to get elected to the presidency so probably this really doesn’t matter. Why vote for the white clone when you can vote for the original and get points for voting for a “person of (half) color”?

I keep hoping that something will happen that will keep Romney from being the candidate. I personally don’t like him on so many levels that it’s hard to know where to begin, but I also think that he’s simply not electable. His views are little different from those of Obama, he’s a big-government guy (regardless of what he has said from time to time, he grew the MA gov enormously and is considered to have created Obamacare), and he’s a member of a flaky non-Christian cult that had to be subdued by the threat of the US Cavalry.

The GOP-E must have been stoned or delirious when they annointed him. He’s the only one who can lose to Obama.

I’m voting down-ticket.
