Three years ago, President Obama cut a secret deal with pharmaceutical company lobbyists to secure the industrys support for his national health care law. Despite Obamas promises during his campaign to run a transparent administration, the deal has been shrouded in mystery ever since. But internal emails obtained by House Republicans now provide evidence that a deal was struck and GOP investigators are promising to release more details in the coming weeks.
What the hell? White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina, who is now Obamas campaign manager, complained to a lobbyist for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) in January 15, 2010 email. This wasnt part of our deal.
This reference to our deal came two months before the final passage of Obamacare in an email with the subject line, FW: TAUZIN EMAIL. At the time, Billy Tauzin was president and CEO of PhRMA.
The email was uncovered as part of investigation into Obamas closed-door health care negotiations launched by the House Energy and Commerce committees oversight panel.
In the coming weeks the Committee intends to show what the White House agreed to do as part of its deal with the pharmaceutical industry and how the full details of this agreement were kept from both the public and the House of Representatives, the committees Republican members wrote in a memo today.
On June 20, 2009, Obama released a terse 296-word statement announcing a deal between pharmaceutical companies and the Senate that didnt mention any involvement by the White House.
The investigation has determined that the White House, primarily through Office of Health Reform Director Nancy Ann DeParle and Messina, with involvement from Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, was actively engaged in these negotiations while the role of Congress was limited, the committee members wrote. For example, three days before the June 20 statement, the head of PhRMA promised Messina, we will deliver a final yes to you by morning. Meanwhile, Ms. DeParle all but confirmed that half of the Legislative Branch was shut out in an email to a PhRMA representative: I think we should have included the House in the discussions, but maybe we never would have gotten anywhere if we had.
Read the full memo here.
certainly seems reasonable. how credible is the author?
this is news??? everyone knows he sold out to big pharma....lets see if the GOP has a pair big enough to run with this daily...
Phil Klein is very credible.
These crooks have so many running scams, they cannot properly “multi-task” like they adamantly said early on.
The crony-ism cuts both ways.
Right. This was known at the time. It really wasn’t a secret. Obama made promises on what Big Pharma would have to pay (and be held harmless for) and in return, they launched a PR campaign in support of Obamacare that ran into the hundreds of millions.
This was evident to me back when it was happening, and I even wrote letters to CEOs about it. Not sure why it is only now “revealed.”
Stock up on vitamins and supplements for barter!!!
snip-
“Currently, the vitamin industries, by order of the Codex Alimentarius (CA) are being attacked by the US government to justify the force outlawing of natural medicine use.”
And the results of this will be.....
/crickets
Obama told the MSM to lay off. Orders are orders, people.
Crumbling...
Fast and Furious
Wright hush money
PhRMA
Solyndra
etc...
Tick tock, tick tock.
This is not news, except if the quotes are real. We knew all along that the pharmaceutical companies were the driving corporate force behind Obamacare—they were brought in by the bill’s extension of patent protection for new drugs from five to 12 years, a move that will cost consumers tens of billions.
Well, as much as I detest Obama’s presidency, there really is nothing to see here unless of course money exchanged hands.
I mean why, if you were trying to push a national healthcare plan, why would you exclude having your camp have discussions and fact finding meetings with pharmacy companies?
Don’t remember where I heard it, but I heard that AARP was going to be given a Billion dollars over 10 years for helping Obama tout & pass Obamacare.
I don’t trust AARP as far as I can throw the Carson River.
