Here we agree, parents need to take care of their kids.
Parents need to teach their kids to survive, you can not solve basic facts of life by committee.....you just do it as nasty as it is you do it.
Indeed. And that has not been a problem in our household since our kids inherited their father’s Irish “feistiness”.
As in, the Irishman walking down the street spotted a brawl. He walked up to one of the participants and said, “Pardon me, is this a private fight, or can anybody join?” ;-)

My son was being bullied and we told the teacher, who called in the bullies parents and it stopped. My son didn’t want to be a snitch, so we (with permission from my son) did it on the sly. He and the boy are decent friends now.
My daughter had enough with a bully that wouldn’t let the verbal abuse go - she was walking away from him to get to a teacher. Too bad for him she spied a pencil on the floor, picked it up and swung around - jabbing it into his arm. He ran crying with the pencil stuck in his arm.
Different solutions for different kids and circumstances. Same result though! (Well - the boy and my daughter aren’t friends - but the bullying stopped!)
I may be wrong, but it seems that at my kid’s schools they take bullying pretty seriously. I ask my kids about it quite a bit, and they say they don’t see too much of it.
Drugs on the other hand....
I was small for my age and very quiet, I got bullied exactly twice in first grade, I beat them both up, one girl and one boy. I got my reputation made in that first year and no one ever tried it again.
OH BS - I went to Catholic schools in NYC in the 60s & 70s and it went on back then. I had the crap beat out of me more than once - but the first time I really fought back was the last time it ever happened again. And when some of them tried that on my kid brother, they learned real quick it was a mistake.
2 of the worst bullies were cops' kids - guess what? So was I.
My daughter doesn't get bullied any more - she knows to stand up for herself, because she knows her father and I will stand up for her.
The biggest problem now days is the victim often gets the same punishment as the culprit because of asinine no tolerance policies.
Of course only gays can be bullied, don’cha know?
I still say the problem is the government school system and the money it eats up and the conformity and stagnation it produces. The result is that there are few choices for parents, and often those choices turn out to be as bad as the public schools because they mimic the public schools. Schools today are very much like prisons due to compulsory attendance and government regulations over education. Let the free market work and you would see real educational reform and less bullying.
At 9 years old I was in a French boarding school for four months while my Dad’s battleship cruised Scandinavia and the Mediterranean with a shipfull of midshipmen. The first night, while the dorm mistress was out of the room, a couple of girls jumped on my bed, broke my doll and shredded my little diary. I didn’t speak any French -yet- so nothing came of it.
Coward? A coward is someone who's too afraid show compassion where it's necessary. Fighting is easy compared to that.
Your attitude is the worst example of cowardice. You're so afraid inside that you curse those who have been emotionally harmed.
Tellya what, superman - go down to the local VA hospital and tell some of those vets with PTSD that they're cowards.
You think that's different from an overwhelmed and frightened child who's been beaten? I'll bet you do - because you can intimidate a frightened child. That's your speed. But a vet would knock your teeth down your throat.

My reply was a comment to the pompous knuckledragger who called everyone who's been bullied and intimidated a coward. Of course there's a time to stand up for one's self and fight. But to deny the harm that bullies do is ridiculous - especially since they are empowered by the punish-the-victim monsters that call themselves teachers and administrators.
There are seriously screwed up kids out there because these monsters have attacked their very right to self-defense, and left them vulnerable to savage abuse. To not acknowledge the psychological results of that sabotage of the human psyche is to miss the very reason those totalitarians are doing it to the kids in the first place.
I don’t know when you went to school, but I think the bullying of today differs from even a few years ago.
Today, the internet bullying enters into the equation. It’s not really a matter of fighting a good fight. That is in addition to assasination on the internet. Young children hang themselves over this.
I may get hammered for saying this but I believe it to be true, kids are not free today to grow up on their own. They can’t because of the creeps that might grab them. They stay under a protective umbrella of their parents and can’t deal with the pressures involved with dealing with bullies.
I find it to be a tragic loss of an important part of childhood.
High School for me was like a job I hated but had to do. Do only what I needed to get by and after the last bell leave without pause.
I didnt go to any dances,football games or after school event. School pride for was for mindless sheep. In the yearbook, There was only two photos of me. I advoided the camera like a mob boss.
As for reunions,Bah. Most in my class ended up dead,stoned or in prison.
Great post.....and good on you!!! As for the sentence above, I couldn't agree more. It's stupid, it's laziness on the part of Educrats. Still, I taught my kids to stand up for themselves and I'd have their backs, as you have rightfully done.

OTOH, what is our suffering compared to what He suffered on the cross for us? He took our place and endured all that we deserved. So yeah, basically, take a page from the Bible and keep your heart and mind focused on Christ and shut up already about yourself. That's how it was explained to me.
