Over the last few months, the Obama-Biden campaign and its allies have offered up phony issues to drive the national political conversation the Buffett rule, the war on women, the student-loan fight, the Life of Julia ad, the gay-marriage debate and so on. From the president to the lowliest MSNBC Democratic talking heads, the party has focused on one silly item after another.
Usually, these diversions are saved for the fall, when voters start to pay attention. Why are they so intent on dominating the news with manufactured pseudo issues so early in the presidential campaign?
Yes, part of it is about distracting voters from the weak economy, persistently high unemployment, ballooning deficits and so on and the administrations failure to deal with those. But theres more to the story.
Remember: When he first emerged nationally, Barack Obama promised to move the country past its petty divisions and to focus on the big challenges that face all of us together. This was the central theme of his lauded Red State/Blue State address at the 2004 Democratic convention, as well as of his second autobiography, The Audacity of Hope. The author omits the most obvious reason Obama is pandering now instead of closer to the election: money. He can’t raise money if people don’t think he can (or should) win.
Six more months of campaign ads. Six more months of pandering.
NO one in history has ever been less qualified to be a leader, let alone the POTUS, as our current imposter in the white house.
The voters who elected this imbecile clown should hang their heads in shame.
Many who should will instead studiously ignore the stupidity of their choice and work to ratify it, as if doing something idiotic twice was any kind of confirmation.
“The Public Good” is just commie-speak to justify a nanny state. It is not a goal/function of the Federal Government. When the government stays out of the way, “public good” happens because the public takes care of itself. Dole was a lousy candidate, but I still remember him on the floor, talking down Hillary Care. He said, “It is not the function of government to do good, its role is to prevent harm”. That doesn’t mean to coddle one group over another, it means that laws will punish those who harm others and that certain regulations will prevent companies from being userers. To fulfil that role/function, the government muct remain limited as the Constitution insists.
