Beck: As Crackdowns on Lemonade Stands Mount, Kids Will Learn to Acquiesce to Government
The Blaze ^ | 5/23/12 | Tiffany Gabbay

Last week Glenn Beck discussed the all-encompassing reach of the Nanny State as local officials have been cracking down, not on gang violence or organized crime rings, but on enterprises as innocent as children’s lemonade stands and bake-sales. Whether America’s youth are selling their refreshments for charity, school-funds, or simply for their own mad-money and enjoyment, bureaucrats seem to be hyper-focused on dismantling what was once a cornerstone of the American experience.

If it sounds too outrageous to be true, consider the following stories from around the country and listen to Glenn Beck explain why Big Government tactics like this will only serve to weaken the next generation’s work ethic and make them more reliant upon government (clearly, the intended goal).

In Massachusetts schools, bake-sales were nearly banned by law in a push that officials claimed was intended to battle “childhood obesity.” Fortunately, after enough outrage from parents was generated, Governor Deval Patrick backed down from the planned regulations.

The ban would have prohibited the sale of sweets and baked goods during the school day and 30 minutes before and after the start of classes, but parents and some school officials expressed concern, saying it would hinder raising the cash needed to help pay for school activities.

This is hardly the first (or last) time such an incident has taken place, however.

In Appleton, Wisconsin, two young girls who ran a lemonade and cookie stand every year near their home during the town’s Old Car Show were paid a visit by law enforcement and told they had to shut down. Neither the tears that ensured nor the fact that the stand had been their tradition since they were about three-years-old didn’t faze Big Brother. A city ordinance is a city ordinance, and in what many considered the trademark robotic

Yep, we’ve got to teach these young people about business.

They need their business license, workman’s comp insurance, employee health insurance, make sure to pay at least minimum wage to all employees, have their permits from the health department, pass health inspections relating to handling of food, have liability insurance policy in place, in case someone gets hurt at their place of business, make sure they withhold income tax on their employees, register with the IRS, their state, and any other governmental entities to get their required tax ID numbers, register with their state to collect and remit sales tax on all sales, etc. etc. etc.

Yes, that’s right. They need a personnel department, to collect information about the race and ethnicity of job applicants. They need to have a non-discrimination policy including race, sex, sex orientation/identity, national origin, etc.

You’ll see more and more of this as the government is squeezed for cash and the government bureaucrats start to get worried about their job they will go into hyper-active mode to prove to their employer that they are still of some value by over enforcing to collect more money for the State. It will keep getting worse right up until we hit the wall like Greece. In the mean time black markets will also start to get more popular as everyone gets squeezed by these government goons and are forced to go underground just to survive. Interesting times.

You are technically correct...but that only applies if you employ 10 or more people and are staring to make a profit!

Maybe kids will learn to hate oppression and gear up to putting an end to it.

Teach the kids on how to prepared emergency food kits, buy some 5 gallon buckets, and then have the kids go door to door selling a preppers kit.

Bucket can come with certain emergency supplies and freez dried foods, with the proper buying the profit margin can be pretty good.

When will “the good men go to war”?

When will acts of civil disobediance spring up with crowds of people pushing back cops and in the middle little suzie with her lemonaide stand?

We are too law abiding to stand up.... we are complicit in our own slavery to government, our parents trained us too well for our own good...

Comply, comply,....

We have already lost....because we worked too hard to earn what we got and only fools with nothing to lose like OWS do things that risk losing everything because they have nothing to lose....

It takes more courage to lose everything once you have it for your ideals than it does for an OWSer who is a loser already and has nothing to lose...

Great just what we need. AK-47 toting pre-adolescent gangs running the lemonade cartel.

If Norman Rockwell painted it, it's on the hit list.

This is just one more aspect of the systematic elimination of American Culture as we used to know it.

We had a neighborhood garage sale this past weekend.
At least a half-dozen lemonade stands.
I bought from as many as I could.

Norman Rockwell was nothing more than a unsophisticated, lowbrow illustrator, according to the artsy-fartsy crowd doncha know.
