A look inside the ‘world’s nicest prison’(Let me guess, It's in the worlds nicest country?)

Picture this: A small Norwegian island dotted with pine trees, rocky coasts, rustic farms and private, wooden cottages. It sounds almost like the perfect romantic getaway. But the residents are actually inmates confined to what some are calling the "world's nicest prison." CNN has an excellent, in-depth look at Bastoy Prison, located on a one-square-mile island in southern Norway. It's unconventional to say the least; neither the prisoners nor the guards wear uniforms, and the inmates have keys to their own rooms. "It's still prison," said one inmate, "Luke," 23, who withheld his full name. "In your mind, you are locked (up)."

I think “hard time” in Norway is more than three months, a you have to just about be a mass murderer to get that much.

Lutefisk Pictures, Images and Photos

Lutefisk morning, noon, and night is cruel and unusual punishment that would never happen in an American prison.

Nice place!! Heck, I think I may have to make a trip to Norway and knock off a convenience store: it’d be worth it.

Apparently, you are required to have a job, but for me, that’s no biggie! I love to work!

If you’re interested, here’s the official website: http://www.statsbygg.no/prosjekter/prosjektkatalog/585_bastoy/index.html

Look under BILDER for photos: really beautiful church there as well. Sunbathing? Skiing? Fishing?

Hell.........I’m catching the next plane!!!

I prefer the dangerous people to be locked up in Japanese prisons....

No yard time for them to trade their crime secrets with each other, or weights to make them stronger next time they get out, just cold isolation to think about what they have done while they rot to death behind a very heavy metal door...

the maximum prison sentence in Norway is 21 years - incredibly, that applies even in the case of Anders Brevik, the nutcase that just gunned down 77 fellow Norwegians (mostly kids). I'm guessing they're having second thoughts about being so progressive.

We saw a lot of lutefisk when we lived in North Dakota—but I was never tempted to try it....

Looks somewhat like the Peruvian “Aji de Gallina” we’re having for supper. Lutefisk, does it taste like chicken? Maybe I best pass...pushed my luck with cuy.

___-

My grandmother said it was good stuff. I have eaten it and thought it was pretty good if done right. But then after a couple of trips through Navy survival schools I will eat just about anything that won't eat me first. My wife says I am sick in the head and casts a wary eye on anything I say is good. Poor girl just has never been gut cramping hungry and had nothing but a small lizard (raw) and some doubtful water for about 10 days.:-)

I couldn’t eat it because I didn’t like the way it looked and smelled. I’m a bit like your wife, I guess—and no, I’ve never been that hungry.
