The underwear bomb that surfaced in Yemen this month has reignited concern that al-Qaeda's bomb-makers are finding innovative ways to hide explosive devices - even placing them within the body. How worried should we be?
A body cavity device would be just the latest chapter in the deadly cat and mouse game played between al-Qaeda and Western security officials when it comes to aviation. The terror group has consistently sought out new means of evading airport security regimes.

For the ‘terror’ element, what is stopping them from setting off one in a crowded airport>
But don't profile for muslimes. /s
Simple solution - “pre-detonate” every Muslim!
Hmm, maybe an EMP pulse booth at the airport....
It’s absurd. With all the SAM’s floating around, a ‘real’ terrorist or group could destroy the European and Middle Eastern airline activity overnight.
A realistic threat?
If muslims could figure out a way to make a
baby bomb, they would already be going off
in airports around the world.
Not profiling for Muslims would be like
not profiling for NAzis after the start
of world war II.
even the cruel truth isn't without a sense of mirth.
I have always thought that the long lines at TSA security would be a tempting target. No one is screened entering the airport and the TSA people and soon to retire cops often assigned to airport duty wouldn't be a match for a trained terrorist with automatic weapons and grenades. This type of terrorist attack at an airport waiting room was done in Israel in the 1970s. Needless to say the Israelis have fixed this security issue.
How about a special "Muslim prayer room" with an x-ray behind the wall?
EXACTAMUNDO!
I (and others) have advanced this scenario for a long time now.
If anyone stops to think about how many people are in the concourse of our major airports checking in, walking thru, etc., this amounts to many hundreds of people; much more than what we find on most airlines.
All a dedicated terrorists would have to do is waltz into any airport and either deposit a suitcase full of C-4 or other high explosive or be wearing a suicide vest.
How to combat this?
VERY SIMPLE and very "low tech."
It is called "bomb sniffing dogs" with handlers, stationed at all airport entrances.
One that procedure is implemented (and announced far and wide) this would deter (or defend against) those who want to disrupt air travel and create havoc, death and destruction of our citizens.
WHY, might we ask, are those very reasonable and inexpensive measures NOT being considered?
Quite simple: There are some (anyone want to guess who "they" might be?) who's "religion" consider dogs "unclean" and if they came anywhere near in contact with these pooches, it would....wait for it...."OFFEND" their sensibilities, thus, no dogs will be considered added to the "war on terror" anytime in the near future.
MADNESS!
The inmates are running the asylum
Beam me up Scotty!!!
Firearms or luggage containing nothing but explosives.
I remember flying out of San Jose, Costa Rica years ago. One didn't get through the entrance doors until checked.
They have dogs (I assume bomb and/or drug types) roaming the airports and Amtrak stations now. Offending hasn’t been an issue....so like you say, just station them at the airport access points also.
Actually, an even easier solution - you don’t get onto airport property without getting screened for firearms and explosives (if not outright credential checks). We don’t let people onto military bases without proper screening, let alone near the flight line. Why should airports be different?
“It is called “bomb sniffing dogs” with handlers, stationed at all airport entrances.”
The thought of that made my day, LOL. If this wasn’t a family site I would put up a picture of a female dog dressed like a Muslim. Use your imagination.
A free society is always ripe for attack. We need to kill the bad guys before they get here.
I thought I was too tired to chuckle. I was wrong.
