Could Romney be testing Gingrich as a possible VP candidate via Meet the Press and Vegas with Trump?
May 26, 2012 | Ralph Mitchell

Sunday, Newt Gingrich will be on Meet the Press as a Romney surrogate. Tuesday, Newt will be campaigning with Mitt Romney and Donald Trump in Las Vegas. Could Romney be testing the Newt for VP waters? Nobody, gets TV news ratings like Gingrich. Nobody can be a campaign pitbull like Gingrich. Newt can sing many songs on TV news. The other GOP VP candidates are milk toast next to Newt. Is it possible?

Until we address the deeper problem we will continue to teeter on the brink, forever on the brink, every election a desperate last stand against the deluge.

Actually, I think you stated it better than I did.

1) I agree that the probabilities are that Romney will win Florida but that is not to say that he is a lock on the state. Too early to tell but the trends are our friend. Rubio brings more to the table than just Florida as I pointed out. He has broad overall appeal beyond Hispanics in the Southwest.

2) I do not propose to reengage with you in any birther argument. Whether or not Rubio qualifies as a natural born citizen is moot. The argument that he does not qualify even though born in the United States because his parents were not yet citizens simply finds no traction. It does not matter what you think, the matter is being decided for us. Good luck getting a court to rule your way-or rule in any way at all.

To repeat,I have no interest in debating this subject with you.

3) I have no special brief for Marco Rubio, in many ways Paul Ryan would be better but I do have an appreciation of the need to woo Hispanic voters while we still can. Overall, Rubio is telegenic, articulate, and unflappable in debate. He will make a fine candidate and I see no reason to believe that he would not be a fine VP or, if the need arose, President. There is every reason to expect that in eight years he would be formidable presidential timber. He is already a demonstrably charismatic campaigner.

'I live in Florida & I don't agree with you about Rubio. If you are a Conservative & believe in AMNESTY then he's your guy.

Most Spanish people are not that enthralled with Cubans & even the language is not the same.

I hope you will acknowledge that I stated the possibility that Rubio would not be able to draw among Mexican-Americans in the Southwest as he does among Cuban-Americans in Florida. As I stated in another context, no doubt Romney will have very detailed polling on this and other relevant questions.

He knows how to “work” Congress. Whether he would be able to do so in a spending-cutting way, as he did in the 90s, with Mitt as President, is another question altogether.

Newt as travelling speaker for Mitt would keep the nobamanits out of sync full-time and give Mitt “plausible deny-ability” cause Newt said “that”.

Newt as VP choice would go a long way towards erasing the sour taste I have for Romney. Newt has been vetted and so would not have much trouble dodging strange innuendos from the Obama thugs. Newt also would be a perfect compliment as to practical government operations. I don’t trust Rowney’s conservative credentials as to free rein.

I am a bit uncertain about Cruz, altho I did vote for him. It seems to me that Dewhurst is/was as much or more responsible for the overall success of Texas as Perry has been. It’s hard to argue with that kind of success, altho Cruz has some very worthy supporters. I will remain uncertain about Cruz for a long time I guess.

As a Colorado Newt Delegate, I’d say GREAT!

But the fact is, I doubt this will happen.

I’m thinking maybe a cabinet position. I think Newt is too strong of a personality for VP. Presidents don’t like their Veep to be a competitor.

Romney and Ryan don’t have the spine foe what’s coming. As Dr Michael zSavage says if Romney runs a McCrap style campaign he’ll lose. Col West can hold his own and he’s battle tested.

I’m 100% for keeping Dewhurst where he is. He’s doing good in this LtGov spot for Texas. In Senate we need a bit more conservative, not more reaching across the aisle.

I think that there will be a runoff between Cruz and Dewhurst.

At least. Should give Cruz more time to build on the momemtum and more time for Dewhurst to over-reach with the Romney style dirt.
