My usual movie goal is to find some tradtional values or at least a hint in that direction.
I find Michael Medved to be a good resource. He often picks sleepers that are excellent.
Go back several years into the archives and you’ll find a lot of them on netflix.

“When I was a kid our local theater had Free Summer Matinee Movies for kids. (they got local merchants to pay for the movie in exchange for advertising.) Usually they would show old monster flicks or Disney pictures like old Yeller and such.
I remember watching one summer afternoon “The Parent Trap” and from that time on I’ve been deeply in Love with Hayley Mills!”
When I was about 10 years old, I saw “Summer Magic” while on vacation in Maine with my family.
I will confess that I, too, fell deeply in love with Hayley Mills that summer.

Well, then, sometime I will have to share with you the titles of her annual Christmas and Easter film festivals.

Haven’t seen RV, but I don’t think The Survivors has ever been topped as his funniest. (”What kind of man gives cigarettes to trees?!”)
I’ve hard For Greater Glory is a very good movie, although it doesn’t officially open until tomorrow(Friday).
I second Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the last film I remember seeing that made me double over in wheezing laughter. A more subdued, but very funny in its own way, film is “Silver Bears,” which has Caine along with a great ensemble cast. It’s one that you kind of just chuckle your way through.
Fabulous movie! I’m not a Kevin Costner fan, but this was a really good movie. It got terrible reviews, but someone in this movie reminded me of someone I love very much (I don’t want to say who because it would be a spoiler), and no, it’s not the bird.
Whew...I thought you just linked to the actual movie. Anyone who would watch that movie “unaccompanied” is a masochist!
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel? Haven’t seen it but someone called me just to tell me to see it. About old folks.

Another comes to mind that’s very R-rated, but despite all the ways in which the characters explore personal excess, it ultimately reinforces the traditional family. The movie is Serial, starring Martin Mull heading up a great ensemble cast.
Do you want the version where the midgets toss the basketballs through the hoops, or the one where the players toss the midgets through the hoops?
I highly second the Secretariat recommendation. It is fast becoming one of my favorites (no pun intended).
The Avengers was a great movie...
The Ladykillers (the original movie with Alec Guinness and a very young Peter Sellers). Great, droll, British comedy from the 1950s.
Were you laughing at how bad Battleship was?
Oh, yes! Breaking Away. One of my favorites.
One of the most entertaining, light-hearted, feel-good movies you can see.
Especially if you’ve grown up in the era depicted in the film.
