Prisons are running out of food (Greece)
Protothema ^ | 5-29-12 | Petros Katsakos

The latest example is the prison in Corinth where after the supply stoppage from the nearby military camp, the prisoners are at the mercy of God because, as reported by prison staff, not even one grain of rice has been left in their warehouses. When a few days earlier the commander of the camp announced to the prison management the transportation stoppage, citing lack of food supplies even for the soldiers, he shut down the last source of supply for 84 prisoners. The response of some Corinth citizens was immediate as they took it upon themselves to support the prisoners, since all protests to the Justice ministry were fruitless.

In the past few days groups of Corinth residents have started collecting food as a small token of solidarity and respect to people who may be denied certain rights by justice but not their human dignity.

The Corinth prison is in need of rice, pasta, frozen meat and eggs.

The prisons in Patra and Alikarnassos have also been experiencing food supply problems lately, as the prisoners who cannot afford to buy food from the prison canteen are left without food.

As a side note - this is exactly why NATO should have never been expanded, but rather disbanded after the Cold War mission was accomplished.

Now we are intimately involved with the security of 35 nations - including some truly screwed-up, 3rd-world wannabees like Greece. Now food is running out.

Raise your hand if you don’t believe these clowns will be involved in a war within 5 years.

And now it gets ugly. Governments won’t move food fast enough (would be an admission of problem severity), so options are open the doors vs., well, don’t.

semi useless socialist peasants & drones used to decades of spending money they don’t have for things they don’t need while they refuse to work for any of it.

At war?? LOL!
The Pennsylvania Boy Scouts could put a hurting on them all!

I don’t believe - but civil insurrection is certainly in the cards!

Greece could always just use this as an opportunity to put multiculturalism into practice. Sharia law doesn't provide food for jailbirds. They expect the families to bring it in.

Since Sharia law is always given special status by the multiculturalists, this would be the perfect opportunity to try it out. < / sarcasm >

Coming soon to a place near you. The U.S. has almost 1/2 of the entire population of Greece incarcerated and growing every day.

I am a firm believer in prisons growing their own food. Prisoners should all be familiar with all manner of food production from hoeing a row, to milking the cow, to churning the butter, food storage, preservation, whatever it takes. Such a thing is good for the prison, the prisoner, AND the tax payer.

"I was thinking bologna sandwiches."

Me, too, SM! GREEN bologna sandwiches. They should take a clue from Sheriff Joe!

And Pairie Lady - your post is right on! Give 'em some responsibility - and teach them to grow their own.

I have the feeling that most of the people who are incarcerated, never learned the meaning of responsibility or accountability.

The US has released large blocks of prisoners for far less than this.
