Obama order sped up wave of cyberattacks against Iran (Get yer boots on!)

WASHINGTON — From his first months in office, President Obama secretly ordered increasingly sophisticated attacks on the computer systems that run Iran’s main nuclear enrichment facilities, significantly expanding America’s first sustained use of cyberweapons, according to participants in the program.

Mr. Obama decided to accelerate the attacks — begun in the Bush administration and code-named Olympic Games — even after an element of the program accidentally became public in the summer of 2010 because of a programming error that allowed it to escape Iran’s Natanz plant and sent it around the world on the Internet. Computer security experts who began studying the worm, which had been developed by the United States and Israel, gave it a name: Stuxnet.

At a tense meeting in the White House Situation Room within days of the worm’s “escape,” Mr. Obama, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and the director of the Central Intelligence Agency at the time, Leon E. Panetta, considered whether America’s most ambitious attempt to slow the progress of Iran’s nuclear efforts had been fatally compromised.

“Should we shut this thing down?” Mr. Obama asked, according to members of the president’s national security team who were in the room.

Told it was unclear how much the Iranians knew about the code, and offered evidence that it was still causing havoc, Mr. Obama decided that the cyberattacks should proceed. In the following weeks, the Natanz plant was hit by a newer version of the computer worm, and then another after that. The last of that series of attacks, a few weeks after Stuxnet was detected around the world, temporarily took out nearly 1,000 of the 5,000 centrifuges Iran had spinning at the time to purify uranium.

Obama is getting desperate. Taking credit for the things started under Bush while trashing Bush's administration.

Ok, getting pissed. Retired Navy cryptologist. I have seen clearances revoked for less. If this story is factual, or has any basis in reality, this is a serious breach of basically everything I know about security. What the hell?

the worm, which had been developed by the United States and Israel

Mr. Obama decided that the cyberattacks should proceed.

None of this was public knowledge before now, was it?

I mean yes, there was speculation and intelligent guesswork, but no confirmation...

So why is it in the papers now?

Let me guess: We'll see a story about how those CompSci courses at Harvard paid off as he personally rewrote a critical subroutine in the code.

We'll see a story about how Barry-O came in off the golf course, sat down in front of a computer screen, and gave the order "Let's do this thing" to launch the attack.

The post needed repeating it was right on.

Only a damned fool would be so desperate as to think he could be elected by taking credit for something that should forever remain secret. Why isn’t he so forward with his own background information.

Why doesn’t he just send out an open invitation for everyone to launch cyber attacks against us? The fool.

This guy has to go while we still have a country that MIGHT be saved.

Iran has our RQ-170 drone that crashed 4 December 2011 on display in a museum. They are trying to build a replica of the aircraft.

He doesn't care. The most important thing to obummer is obummer, and next to that staying in power. We couldn't have done worse electing a Soviet mole President of the United States.... Maybe we did!

The story refers to Zer0 as “Mr Obama,” which is the style used in British journalism, and some of the pix are credited to Reuters. Meaningful?

When you have a Muslim terrorist playing POTUS, all the cards are on the table to get re-elected. Hollywood gets access to Bin Laden information, TOP SECRET cyber attack info gets released, the press lies continuously to protect their Muslim traitor playing liberal......

Whether Americans read DU, FREEREPUBLIC or the comics, they are the biggest fools in history.

I won't tell you what I did in the service.

Is Obama also taking credit for the Stuxnet virus?
