Romney picks up Shultz, Rice, Huckabee and Nancy Reagan Endorsements

Over the last few days, since Romney clinched the GOP nomination for President by going over the 1,144 committed delegates needed with his win in the Texas Primary on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, a number of new endorsements have come in for Romney's bid for the Presidency.

These include George Shultz, former Secretary of State; Condoliza Rice, former Secretrary of State and National Security Advisor; Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas and presidential candidate; and Nancy Reagan, wife of President Ronald Reagan. Here's what each of them had to say on the date they endorsed Romney:

NANCY REAGAN endorses Mitt Romney (May 31, 2012) “I offer my firm endorsement of Mitt Romney's campaign for president. Ronnie would have liked Gov. Romney's business background and his strong principles, and I have to say I do too. I believe Mitt Romney has the experience and leadership skills that our country so desperately needs, and I look forward to seeing him elected president in November.”
MIKE HUCKABEE endorses Mitt Romney (May 31, 2012) “I was very careful and deliberate in not wanting to get involved in the process prior to somebody securing the nomination, largely because I play on both radio and television. I didn’t feel it was appropriate for me to pick a Republican candidate. I don’t think anyone doubted that I was going to support the Republican. But Mitt Romney has now earned it — and I use that term very specifically. He worked hard to get it and therefore I think all Republicans and all conservatives need to rally around Gov. Romney. "So, I made it very clear: I’ll do everything that I can to vigorously support Mitt Romney because I think our country is at stake, and I believe his leadership would provide the right direction as opposed to what we’ve had for four years, which is the wrong direction. “Four years ago, we were opponents. There’s a lot that happens when you are running against somebody in a primary, but it’s not personal between Mitt Romney and me. It’s about our country, and quite frankly, Mitt has worked hard. He has my absolute and full support. I think when you look at what Obama has done and what Mitt Romney brings to the table in terms of being able to manage something, for heaven’s sakes, Mitt's managed a state, he’s managed a significant capital enterprise, he’s managed a huge non-profit endeavor, the Olympics, and done it all successfully. Barack Obama came to the presidency having managed nothing, not so much as a hot dog stand. And this country is struggling because of it. "I am going to do everything I can humanly do for Mitt Romney to be the next president.”
CONDOLIZA RICE endorses Mitt Romney (May 30, 2012) "We care about the future of this country, and the future of our world and I’m delighted to join so many friends here in supporting, and in my case, endorsing, Gov. Mitt Romney for President of the United States. If America is going to rebuild its strength at home, rebuild its sense of who we are, it needs a leader that also understands how really exceptional the United States of America is, and is not afraid to lead on the basis of that exceptionalism. America's leadership is craved in this world, it’s understood in this world. The only thing the American people dislike more than weak leadership, is no leadership at all. And Governor Romney, you can bring it back."
GEORGE SHULTZ endorses Mitt Romney (May 30, 2012) "“What Mitt has done at Bain Capital has been a major contribution to the American economy. He has learned and instinctively can feel what it takes to get this huge amount of money that is sitting on the sidelines of our economy to move forward and be invested."

I found Huckabee's statement interesting, and compelling, given the history.

This is not a religious thread...it is simply a thread about some folks who have endorsed Romney.

What happens to Romney after this life will be between Him and God in Heaven...and is not for us to decide. But what happens here in the USofA we do have a hand in and I much prefer what Romney is representing than what Obama represents.

A bunch of them are very much all-Americans, patriotic, conservatives who are fighting for our Republic who are aware of all of the aspects of this thing...and yet they have made the decision they have made.

I do not think they have all been fooled. I do not think they are all RINOs or somehow betraying this nation. I do not think that Romney intends on backing away from his commitments to all of these very well known and prominant people who will be the ones who help him get elected...if he does.

Anyhow...that's just my own opinion. I can understand why others whom I know to be good, patriotic Americans, come to a different conclusion, even if I do not agree with it.

That's what she has said...and how she apparently intends to vote. I am sure we will hear more later.

As I have said, I understand and respect how others, whom I know to be good patriotic Americans can come to a different conclusion regarding Romney...even if I do not agree with it. I will not naysay them.

On the other hand, I personally simply cannot and will not do (or not do) anything that will enable the Kenyan Marxist, Obama another four years in the White House. And I have come to that conclusion in part, with the help of people like Sarah Palin who have made the comments, statements, decisions, and endorsements that they have made.

I think he will too. Though I would love a West, I believe it is much more likely to be a Rubio.

He has such a great opportunity, if he wins, to have one of the best cabinets.

Alan West for Defense, Santorum for Attorney General, Bachman for Homeland Security, Bolton for Secretary of State, heck, Paul for Teasury (what a shakeup to the Globalists that would be), Cain for Interior, etc., etc. there are many, many great names that could be used to get a fantastic, all-American team together to undo all that Obama and his cabinet and Czars have done to this nation.

When history is being made as a major religious leader for the first time in American history is running for president, a high ranking power within a religion, is running for president, then it is a part of the political discussion.

When the GOP nominee is the first one to think he is going to become literally a God, then that is part of the political discussion.

I don't agree. You are interjecting religion into it. He's not running "as a Mormon," he's running as a GOP candidate.

He's not a "Mormon Leader," and hasn't been since he ran for Governor, many years ago.

Until you raised it, no one on this thread was talking about it, or felt the need to.

On the basis some folks raise, no devout Catholic should run for President because they believe so strongly about the Pope...but as a nation we got past that long ago. I suspect we will get past this as well with the nation being no worse the wear.

In fact, if he defeats Obama, the nation, according to that long list of very prominent and knowledgable patriotic Americans I listed, will be much the better for it with him rather than with Obama...Sarah Palin herself said the same when specifically asked about Romney:

Is she now one of the "fooled", or turn-coats to who is helping destroy America? I don't think so. She's reviewed the people in the race, and probably with a whole lot more knowledge than any of us, and she has made this decision. I respect it and believe she is right.

Bishop Romney is a leader and royalty from a bizzare religious cult that had never even existed before and was created generations after the United States was founded.

I understand and respect why people of good consiceince come to mis-trust and not want to vote for Romney based on his record...though given the alternatives and what he has published he is running on and the commitments he has made thereto to these very prominant people endorsing him, I do not agree with.

I do not respect the idea that folks would reject him purely on a religous basis because that religion, unlike fundamental Islam, is not seeking to establish something like Sharia Law or any other political set of laws and judicailsim law the compels everyone oin the country to either join, pay tribute and conform, be enslaved, or die.

The Constitution is pretty clear about there not being any religious test. I except Islam because of the world-wide political domination it clearly seeks over this mortal earth hiding under the name of religion.

But you do what you gotta do...I will join with these very conservative people endorsing Romney to defeat Obama, the greatest threat to this Republic since the Civil War.

Actually, ansel, I did not indicate that all of Islam should be subect to a test. Read what I wrote and accurately and honestly reflect it if you are going to attribute something I said or wrote to me. I said "fundamental Islam" that wants to implement Sharia Law.

Huge difference.

If an Islamic does not want to implement Sharia Law on society (ie, the rest of us), and, outside of such compulsion, wants to live and practise the Koran in their life, or at their mosques not seeking to to compel others, or to transform America away from the constitutional republic it is...which becomes a political undertaking...then I have no problem whatsoever with them.

I believe most of them are that way. Most of them came here to get away from the compulsion of Sharia law. Sadly many of those are cowed by the fundamentalist radical amongst them...because those radicals would just as soon kill them as they woudl you or me.

So, at least be accruate in what you aattribute to me.

My point was simply that Mormonism is not trying to do anything like that...so they should not be denied or be subject to some kind of political test purely because of the religion.

That's what the Constitution speaks of.

Now people of every persuasion have their free conscience and they can vote for anyone they choose for whatever reason they choose in their heart. No one can deny them that either. It just can't be public policy, and from my perspective, it should be avoided by anyone who loves, cherishes, or has taken an oath to defend the constitution.

But should be, does not translate into "must" be. We're free. Isn't it wonderful?

I pray we can remain so, and believe this particular election is one of the most critical since the Civil War, regarding keeping our Union free. A lot of other people, including those on that long list above, believe it too.
