(AP) Nothing upsets a president's re-election groove like ugly economic numbers.
A spring slowdown in hiring and a rise in the unemployment rate are weighing on President Barack Obama, while enhancing Republican challenger Mitt Romney's argument that the Democratic incumbent is in over his head.
Some questions and answers about how Friday's economic news may play in a close presidential race:
Q: How bad is this for Obama?
A: Pretty awful. Polls show Obama's handling of the economy is his biggest weak spot. People in the United States overwhelmingly rate the economy as their biggest worry, and jobs are what they say matters most.
Q: What can Obama tell voters if the job picture stays bleak?
A: After 3 1/2 years in office, it's getting harder to blame the painfully slow recovery on the mistakes of his predecessor, George W. Bush.
He's also tried shifting blame to congressional Republicans, saying they've held up the recovery by refusing to pass most elements of his jobs bill. And he says some factors dragging down the U.S. economy are beyond a president's control, such as the European economic crisis and fluctuating gasoline prices. The weakening economy in China and turbulence in the Middle East haven't helped, either.

He's not weak on the economy; he never intended to help it. An America not prostrated by economic disaster is one that cannot be controlled.
Great golf pic.
My SIL calculated that in 2011 Baraq played more rounds of golf than he did.
(my SIL is a PGA pro, LOL)
Obama has been saying for the last 2 years America is in recovery and better days are just ahead.
It’s everyone’s/everything’s fault, but his.
So, why do we need him in the WH?

November is the time for another change. The last one spends more time golfing then in trying to resolve the problems.
Oh, poor Barry! Millions of Americans are suffering because he is trashing the economy, and now he’s having trouble explaining it!
But I’m sure AP will figure out how to blame it on congress, or J. Edgar Hoover, or Sarah Palin, or something, since evidently Bush won’t fly.
There must be some mistake here. CNN just discovered that 52% of the voters in America still love the One.
Contrary to the AP's viewpoint, it's not all about Obama.
Don't forget the little people who are suffering too.
FDR milked that excuse for nearly 12 years. That and "It's Hoover's fault".
But Dubya' was a VERY effective POTUS!
It will take 0bama a lifetime to undo what Dubya has done.
We need to stop these silly elections now!
Most Americans I know, and have known, are not fond of being "controlled". It's in our genes. Our forefathers didn't take to being "controlled" by the British, and I sure the hell don't take to being controlled by a kenyan / indonesian / marxist / bastard usurper! Things will get nasty before anyone is "controlled". Mark my words!
lock up all the non believers
We all know how the Feds manipulate or outright release bogus economic numbers which the MSM, without question, disseminate to all corners of the country 24/7. So if all of a sudden, the numbers start heading North starting in August and continue for 3 months until the election, the MSM will be airing the Obama Recovery non-stop, even if they are all lies, which after Nov. 6 re-election of Obama can be adjusted and the overthrow of our way of governing and social system continues..
Romney is walking into a trap from which he will not be able to escape after August. He needs to focus on destroying Obama's likeability factor. Expose him for what he is and his attempt to carry out a silent coup against our representative republic.
Obama?!?!? It's a bloody commie nightmare for every single American!
