(Virginia Gov. ) McDonnell talks up Romney at CPAC

After a day of legislators competing to heap scorn on President Obama at the Chicago Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell took a novel approach: talk up the presumptive GOP nominee, Mitt Romney, as well.

"We need a change, and that change is Mitt Romney. This is a guy that is a man of faith, a man of character. A guy I know a little bit about. I'm honored to be a surrogate going around the country for Mitt Romney," McDonnell said.

Yes, my governor has turned out to be a big disappointment. I will never forget seeing him on Greta’s show before the Florida primary, when Romney was waging his character assassination campaign against Newt. Greta backed McDonnell into a corner and asked him if he agreed with the things Romney was saying, and McDonnell’s eyes suddenly started darting up, down, all around-—anywhere but straight-on——and he mumbled some pathetic half-answer that really was no answer at all. She let him get away with it; maybe she felt sorry for him.

I thought it was a good example of what happens to folks when they start shilling for Romney. They have to sell their soul, in a way.

What is your counter-proposal?

Make Mortimer Milquetoast come to us, not vice versa.

That part seems to be working. Romney saw what we accomplished in WI and sees the tea leaves.

I *hope* he sees the McCain McStakes and hews to the conservative base.

Unlike Blacks, who will vote for obozo no matter what, conservatives have Principles. This is a very deeply problematic election cycle for us.

But I can’t let our entire way of liberty go away from a moment of pique.

But my stomach hurts nonetheless.

“They have to sell their soul, in a way.”

Further it reminds me just how stupid the republican establishment think we are trying to sell us a liberal as a conservative... Insulting..

Support him if you must Wobbert but give me a break on the BS propaganda..

I’m amazed the GOP is dumb enough to try it again so soon.

That’s how I feel, too. Vote for Romney, I don’t care, but don’t try to make the guy out to be something he isn’t.

There is none. You either decide you can vote for Romney, or you decide you can’t.

Well, "pique" has nothing to do with it. I'd vote for Dog the Bounty Hunter to get Obama out, and I'm sick that I can't cast a vote against him in November. But Romney is a line I simply can't cross.

To address your earlier point, IS it working? A month ago Romney came to my hometown and gave a commencement address to a conservative Christian university. Two days before that, he said that "two people of the same gender who love each other" should be able to adopt children. He didn't say two gay or homosexual people...."two of the same gender who love each other." Is that what's known as hewing to the conservative base? Or has he changed again, done another flip-flop in four weeks' time?

If most people who can’t would vote for Virgil Goode, he would win, but people are so afraid to take a risk so they are voting for a liberal. Stupid people.

It wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't a Republican. Calling a spade a spade: when he says gay men should be able to adopt children, what that actually entails is punishing adoption agencies who would refuse to relinquish the children entrusted to them for that; it would punish landlords who said, "I'm not renting to you guys. Go somewhere else to play Ward & June Cleaver in drag."

The punch line: Romney stated also that he was against gay marriage. So it's okay to force folks to let them adopt kids and live in our communities, but not okay to let them get married.

Voting for Romney is just ... nuts.

Thanks for reminding me. I need to check and see if there’s news as to whether he will be on the Virginia ballot.

LOL, I would really love to see someone stand up at one of his campaign stops and say, "Governor Romney, you said that gays should not be able to marry, and yet you believe they should be able to adopt children. Can you explain the logic in your reasoning?"

I guess Romney doesn't care that he would be sentencing kids to a life of being "pets" to a couple of deviants, who could very well end up pimping them out for sex.
